I had the same problem with my sj. It turned out to be the stator wires were cracked and brittle. I sometimes had spark and sometimes didn't. It would also cut out blasting through chop. I was chasing my tail trying to figure it out cus everything checked out ok on a multi meter. It finally gave out at the rager after a flat landing. When I pulled the stator this winter the wires on 2 of the coils were broken. I ended up sending it to Jet Ski Solutions and getting it redone.

ok well that could explain the cutting out at full throttle in chop, but now the damn thing will not idle, i turned the low speed out 1/4 turn and it started up and ran at idle, then just a little while ago i went to do it and it didnt start again!!! i cant figure it out and i am starting to get really pissed. i pulled the plugs and grounded them out on the head and they were both getting spark......... so what next? o btw the exhaust lets out a poping/puff sound that is like built up pressure after a few times turning over, almost as if it is releasing presure when the pistons fire built up fuel in the cylinder.

What do your plugs look like? They should be dry. If they have milky white stuff on them its a water leak some where. If they are just wet with fuel you prob have bad spark. The puff's coming out the exhaust sound like unburnt fuel getting lit off in the water box. Try cutting back your plug wires and changing the plugs. Also pull off your flame arrestor and use a can of starting fluid to get it running. If the ski has good spark and isn't flooded it will have no prob starting. Just be careful if you have converted the ski to premix as starting fluid doesn't have any oil in it. If it runs on the ether then dies when you pull the gas you prob have water in you tank.

thankyou..... im actually abt to empty the tank out, i did all of the things that you listed last night while i was tinkering with it. the plugs were dry except when i flooded it, then they were wet with fuel, no milky white stuff thank god lol... i started it up this morning and it ran fine at idle... im starting to think that is may be bad gas:aargh4: ... i am just gonna hold off messing with nething else until i put the westcoast head on that i am going to pick up this afternoon. as far as water i just pulled the exhaust out and checked all of the cooling lines, they are in good shape with nothing abstructing them, so hopefully i will have this solved soon. but if anyone else has any feedback on the whole situation please feel free to let me know.
Thanks, Chris

ok i checked the cdi, stator, and regulator with a multimeter i compared it to the specs that i got off of pwctoday, here were the results:
Black Red (Negative multimeter lead) to:
Black Yellow: 500,000 ---> ∞ Ω 280
Black: ∞ Ω 4000
Blue: 500,000 ---> ∞ Ω 3000

Black Yellow (Negative multimeter lead) to:
Black Red: 3000-6000 Ω 100
Black: ∞ Ω 4000
Blue: 0 Ω 0

Black (Negative multimeter lead) to:
Black Red: 15,000-25,000 ---> 50,000-100,000 Ω 2000
Black Yellow: 15,000-25,000 ---> 50,000-100,000 Ω 2000
Blue: 15,000-25,000 ---> 50,000-100,000 Ω 2000

Blue (Negative multimeter lead) to:
Black Red: 3000-6000 Ω 100
Black Yellow: 0 Ω 0
Black: ∞ Ω 2000

STATOR SPECS AND TEST

Charging coil output (Yellow to Yellow): 38V AC

Yellow (Negative multimeter lead) to:
Yellow: 1.5-2.3 Ω 2.3
Black: 0.7-1.3 Ω 1

REGULATOR/RECTIFIER TEST

White (Negative multimeter lead) to:
Black: ∞ Ω 1.5
Yellow1: ∞ Ω 5
Yellow2: ∞ Ω 5

Black (Negative multimeter lead) to:
White: ∞ Ω 4
Yellow1: ∞ Ω .5
Yellow2: ∞ Ω .2

Yellow1 (Negative multimeter lead) to:
White: 1000-5000 Ω 5
Black: 2000-10,000 Ω .5
Yellow2: ∞ Ω 2

Yellow2 (Negative multimeter lead) to:
White: 1000-5000 Ω 4.5
Black: 2000-10,000Ω .5
Yellow1: ∞ Ω 2

it looks to me that i need a new cdi and a regulator what do u think?

You Should Considder Sending The Elec. System To Jet Ski Solutions. He Does And Awesome Job And Won't Replace Anything That Doesn't Need To Be. Plus He Will Give You A Good Discount If You Send The Whole Thing.
