650 sx 44sbn carb setup

Can somebody please tell me where to start with the setup on the 44 sbn for needle settings, jetting, pop off pressure. operating at 6500 ft above sea level.
thanks a lot !!!!

1987 650 sx
44 sbn carb
westcoast intake manifold
west coast exhaust and manifold
Mariner head
compression 125
91 octane
40/1 mixture

compression sounds low, especially for that head. mine had a 1.5 needle & seat 122.5 low and a 180 main jet. thinking i had the gold spring, whichever one raised the pop off. may wanna try a 160/165 main first

the compression will be lower, at 6500 ft above sea level, than at sea level.

he said he has a mariner head, but didnt mention dome size.

you used a 180 main on a 650 kawi? thats seems a little rich.

set up a 650sx with a 44 SBN this weekend
stock pipe and head, 150 psi
ended up running 120/150
1 turn out each
you probably want fatter with pipe and head
but I am at 1000 feet so it may cancel out

that ski kicked my tail for months before i got it to run right. the higher i went on the main, the better it ran. no hesitation, no hiccups, it was truely a good running ski setup pretty close to his. i did learn something though, i didnt know elevation would affect compression that much. i guess you learn something new all the time.

I am running a 180/120 setup on a stock 650kawi with Westcoast pipe and it runs real good. Plugs do get darker than I like but it runs so good I am not changing it.
