Need some quick help with my 650 sj. It wasn't running right, originally I thought it was spark issue with the crappy spark plug wires, then thought maybe carb, so I took that all apart and cleaned it up, then finally I got to looking at the reed valves, and that was the answer...
One of them got munched and parts of it must have gone through the engine. This is going to sound dumb, but do I disassemble and attempt to clean it all up, or figure the damage has already been done and just put it back together? (it has been run maybe another 20 - 25 minutes after the initial problem) Compression is still good at 155 on both cylinders, but I see very small metal pieces in the intake, so I am sure they are in the case as well.
Also, what do I put back in there, oem reeds or something else after market like fiberglass/carbon fiber? Wouldn't it be best to shy away from anything metal, at least if this happens again it won't tear up the engine, right? If you could suggest something middle of the road thats not to pricey that would be great.
Please help, I want this thing running again.
