what is the biggest i can safely bore my 61x cylinder without making the sleeves paper thin. i still want reliability just a bigger bore without changing the sleeves.
The common paper thickness is approximately 0.1 millimeters (.0039 inches).
I'd say 84mm but Group-K says they'll go up too 84.5mm
Verify with the machine shop how much it will cost to bore that much because most of the places I called said it would cost more to bore more than one size and they wouldn't give me a definite quote... Also if they say they bore with a honing machine, run away!
Can't hurt to leave one or two sizes in the event of messing up a piston but I was considering the same thing you are and ended up only going to 81.5mm based on many shops recommendations. Of course, I found a sweet deal on wiseco pistons that were 81.5 as well so that was the other deciding factor.
