Recently picked up a 1994 Blaster 1 with a 61x motor, protec exhaust, ride plate, scoop grate, protect high comp head that was bored to a 717 i believe it is. It was a damn quick ski that would hang neck and neck with my buddies 62t with factory pipe.
I came across a super deal on a b2 locally that a guy just didn't want as it came on a trailer he bought as a package only deal. It had a b2 factory dry pipe, ada girdled head and wouldn't start but would turn over. I swapped out a 760 stator, cover, and box (all as one) and it ran good during lake test with a hesitation at the very top end.
This was enough for me to think it was worth keeping and parting the rest of the ski out.
So i pulled the motor and sold the exhaust and hull within 3 days. I pulled the 61x out of the blaster minus exhaust and put that motor in my Yamaha FX1 with factory b pipe and x-2 pump mod with sxr cutback prop. I sold the fx1 61x that day to a good friend for $400 with electronics 150 psi in each hole.
Then we took apart the motor for inspection and ported the exhaust and fixed the transfers. Tore the carbs apart and found old reverse race jetting of 120 pilot and 110 main with one of the silver longer springs for popoff. The main jet was pretty clogged on one of the 44's and made sense for the lake test hesitation. The B2 was sitting for 6 years.
We then helicoiled the 64x exhaust threads to accept 61x b1 protec exhaust
Did full rebuilds on the carbs and upped the main to a 140 jet, installed the black springs for pop off and it was a tad high at 23lbs so I shortened the springs as a last ditch effort after many hours of tuning. It was money after that.
So in about 2 weeks i had a ported 760 in my blaster and a fresh motor with protect head in my fx1. There were many long nights getting this completed but I am super stoked!
Next will be new impeller with different pitch to help load up this little monster.
