300/440/550 550 takes FOREVER to start.

I'm new to Jet Skis but not two strokes. Having said that: I know the first cold start is the hardest but my ski takes 30+ seconds every time it starts, unless I kill it and start it back up within 5(ish) seconds. So my thought is that when it dies, all the fuel that should be in the line siphons back down into the tank so that the starter has to work to suck the fuel all the way back through to the carb. Does this make any sense? I'm not too worried with it as I just got it last weekend and it's a total blast to ride, I just don't want to burn out the starter. Thanks!

Just a little extra info: 1985 Kawasaki 550, 52 degrees, I ride it HARD, it has the same problem weather in or out of the water but I don't have clear fuel lines so I can't watch the gas go through, I can get a vid tomorrow if that would help.

put a primer kit in and i have a guy in willow grove pa that will test and rebuild any starter for reasonable price, lose the choke and but a primer kit with clear or colored clear lines

only hit the start button for 15 seconds then stop, let it cool then try again, 30 seconds is too much and you will eat any starter , you have other issues , my sx starts and runs immediately but my 550 was the same way

Ok thanks, primer on the way. But Jet Skier, what do you mean other problems? Other then starting, and not idling (just havent gotten around to tuning it) I haven't noticed anything else wrong.

Thanks!

I know this is a dead thread but for future reference I did find the problem: I had a crank seal and rod bearing on the way out. So if you have this problem CHECK YOUR CRANKSHAFT because I didn't and when my bearing went out it caused some major carnage.
