Other 550 Fiberglass prject.

I have a js550 that I want to flat deck. While I'm at it I would like to lower my hood, shave the air intake on the hood, and do something with the hand pole (make it thinner or shorten it). I had also read about how chopping 2" to 3" off the back end of a super jet helps it's handling and was wondering if removing the hull extensions on a 550 would help it's handling. My main question though is what kind and how much fiberglass, resin, and foam I need for a flat deck. I have done a fiberglass repair on the side of my hull where I had a crack all the way down the side, so I have expirience but I just used some fiberglass and resin I found in a friend's garage. I was also wondering if there is anything wrong with riding a jey ski without paint on it, as I would like to keep this ski a "rat ski" for now and just keep doing homemade mods to it just to see what happens. Any ideas and/or advise would be greatly apreiciated! Thanks!

these are actually the exact mods i wanna do to my 440 this winter. i know that you want to put some kind of finish over your glass i would say just do it white or even clear if you want that really rough rat look because if you dont the glass will deteriorate due to the elements.

serio try searching for other flat deck ski threads, I am sure there a few. short easy answer is 1708 and epoxy resin. you might want to find a cheap epoxy primer to seal the rest of the ski.

I would say to head to your local marine store but Im guessing there are not a whole lot of em in your neck of the woods.

get some pics and put your cut lines up and get started, people will usually chime in.

Aspirations

These are just some mock ups of what I want to do to the hull. Pretty much just flat deck and hull extension removal. Anyone have any ideas on how this second mod will affect handling?


And sorry for the bad pictures, as this is not the ski I will be cutting because this hull has decommissioned and hung on my wall.
