300/440/550 440 starting problems

So here is my problem. what would cause a new starter to not spin fast enough to crank the motor? The starter is new i just got it from EMS Global. The battery is newish. Had it for a while but never put the electrolytes in until recently. Did not have much of a charge on it but i was using a battery charger with a peak of 50 amps connected directly to the starter. Any thoughts? Also could someone point me to the posts needed to bypass the starter solenoid? Here is a picture of my ebox .

I would guess it's a bad ground somewhere.

1. Check your cables.
2. See how she spins with no plugs in.
3. Try a new battery.

If your start button is functioning correctly, jumping the solenoid won't matter.

I would be sure you have a good battery before digging more. Then like he said check your ground wire and make sure it has a good clean contact to the motor.

I second the battery check. I had a battery that would charge up but only crank the motor for a bit until it started to die off and it was never enough to start it. old skis like yours really need some love. i've got a 78 440 that was all stock and no idea how long it hadn't been run and everytime i put it in the water something would go wrong, usually electrical, so i ended up just replacing most of the wiring.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm planning on replacing the ground and perhaps the battery if needed. What gauge wire would you guys suggest for the ground?
