Pulled this off the trailer today prepping it to ride on my birthday next month, I may ride ugly but I will ride..

Luckily when I pulled the engine to put into the X2 I left all the one off parts and pieces in the hull, an engine and a throttle cable should get her running again, some love with a sander and some new turf on the rub rails will make her shiny again.

I am going Purple and Silver this time and am probably leaving the diamond plate unpainted and shiny this go around.

Either putting a 750 small pin or the ported 650 out of my 650SX fixie in her, haven' decided quite yet.

I painted this ski with Kirker Spectra series candy urethane and clearcoat back in 2010, actually it held up fairly well but it really wasn't meant for something like this and years of Alabama sun have checked and blistered the paint, usually that's a bad thing, in this case however its a good thing because all the white you see on the ski now was removed with a razor blade in about 30 minutes, scraping beats sanding any day of the week.

The paint on the bottom looks to be solid and there really isn't much bodywork that is needed , hopefully on the bottom sides I can just watersand and paint over it, at most it will need a coat of primer over the old paint.

I will have to paint around that hood seal, that one was one of the last new ones available, I bought it before these got popular .

The more I look at this turf the more I just can't let it ride, Back when I was fresh out of AMI working at the Honda-Yamaha dealership the Service manager told me something I will never forget He Said ( I doesn't cost any more to go first class) meaning do it once, do it right and be done with it !

That has stuck with me throughout my entire career and it applies here as well ,so Hydroturf has been ordered, I have found that by sanding the hydroturf with a flap disc it gives off just enough heat to release the turf from the underpad under it so at least I don't have to replace the underpad.

So I have enough Blacktip black diamond pattern to returf this ski, this would match the diamond plate on the handlepole, hell I may even paint it black again, I would be really stretching really thin but I could probably piece it together and returf the rails, or I go with plan B and leave the rails painted using the rubber rub rail trim I didn't use on the Superjet, I know which way would be simpler., it does look like I have enough bumper trim to go around the whole ski end to end. The bumper trim has a nice clean look.

I remover the rest of the turf this morning , bottom mat came off fairly easy with a heat gun, underpadding is still intact, the two other pieces came off with the Dremel multitool and a scraper blade, the Dremel also took off the rail turf like it was buttah !

looking at the couplers they are misaligned up and down about 1/4"and the bolt holes on the bottom of the engine bedplate don't quite line up , something seems a bit off, I know why it's off but the question is which one of you guys can tell me why.

Now make no mistake I am going to press the easy button and rob the engine out of my 650SX fixie, this is just one of those HMMMM I wonder excercises.

This turf is kind of a Bitch. on B stock the diamonds are elongated one way, pretty easy to see which way it needs to go, on this diamond plate yeah not so much , I believe I have it all figured out now though.

By the way this is not something that will happen with this particular ski, this one is set up to run a 550 , 650 or 750 and those fit perfectly however there is another 300SX thats been on the back burner for a while, I want to see it finished, it's a fixie and it's not a flat deck. I rode it with the stock 300 engine a Kirker pipe and a cut down 650 head gasket it ripped pretty well, but you know I can't leave it at that.

Either I am putting the X2 pump tunnel in it that I cut out of X2 or just building a new tunnel like I did on this one , I have a few skis laying around that I have no need or desire to ever fix, I will just say here Kitty kitty and leave it at that. On that one I may very well look into a not so familiar engine option as I have three engines and lots of parts. 62 hp stock is not too shabby in a 300SX

You know it's not a Seadoo, no rotary valve shaft in the center of the crank and I won't touch a Polaris with a ten foot pole. I discovered years ago before every one started all these conversions that the threads on a Tigershark cranks shaft were exactly the same size as pitch as a Kawi, holes on the engine bedplate don't quite line up but if you weld the holes up and redrill the bedplate it will fit right in, exhaust system just goes in pointing forward and you drill and tap one unused hole in the ex manifold to do so, you will have to come up with some sort of bracket to brace up the exhaust pipe The 300SX has to have plates made anyway, it just sits slightly too high on these so you use 1/2" aluminum instead of 3/4", thats about it.

Its been raining here for days on end so a test was in order, Yoga mat versus Hydroturf underpadding, yeah I have seen all the posts, the Hydroturf is still on the 300SX , yoga mat is laying in the SN's tray ,the tray is full of water, the water absorption on both these products seems to be nearly identical, so much for that myth I am calling this one busted. Both absorb water to a small degree.

These also came in the other day, when me and Charles were turfing he was using a scapal to cut the turf, very sharp , very precise, I don't h ave to be quite that precise but something better than a straight edge razor blade is needed so I bought these so far they are working really well.

The activator for the paint also came in . so I have the paint, I have the turf , if I ride ugly now it's all on me.

That's similar to my turf knife of choice. I use an Olfa.
