Super Jet 2011 superjet, all stock very unstable ride

I got to ride a stock 2011 superjet yesterday that is stock with the exception of 0 degree bars and a fingerthrottle yesterday and it was the most unstable riding ski ive ever ridden.. from 1/4 throttle on it would basically death wobble like on a skateboard going down hill.. the turn plate was really loose so i tightened it for him and it improved somewhat but was still present.. it handled very poorly had very sloppy turning.. ive ridden several roundies but never seen one this unstable.. i mean it was bad almost unrideable.. just curious what it could be id like to help him fix it, doesnt really know much about skis.. the guy bought it brand new.. i know the 08 and up roundies have updated hulls with sponsons and deeper strakes but that should make it more stable..

I've never been on a Superjet that's unstable. That includes stock, modified, short freestyle SJ's, and lengthened race SJ's.
Only exception was my old RN that I once put an older Shredmaster ride plate on - it was like a flattened wedge. It did exactly what you describe.
Check the hull bottom for anything odd. Make sure the intake grate and ride plate are in as they should be.

ive ridden several superjets as well and never had one that handled this poorly.. i checked the bottom after it was loaded back on the trailer.. everything looked fine..it would turn but you had to really crank the handle bars.. does the stock rideplate stick out a an inch or so past the back on the newer sj's?

Had you ridden an 08+ before? What were you riding right before you jumped on the 2011? The 08+ handles totally different from the older SJ. They can be a little twitchy at constant speed and under decel in comparison to the previous gen. Under acceleration and through the corners the thing tracks very well. I think the turning on the stock steering is pretty slow. The nozzle angle is adjustable, if you slot the hole in the bracket. That will allow you to push the nose down further, or lift it up a little, and change the handling in the process.

Its normal, post 08 are less stable than pre 08 at slow speed turning and they turn much worse than pre 08. That was my experience compared to my buds with pre-08 SJs. You can put Blowsion tubbies on top of the built-in ones if you cant get used to it. I loved my 2010 SJ after I upgraded all the stock crap on it.

ive ridden several squares and roundies.. ive also ridden 2 other new gen 08 up stockers too and didnt notice them being like this one.. i can imagine if the nozzle pitch is off it will throw off the stability bad. i rode another friends pre 08 roundie just after that and its night and day.. although the old gen rn doesnt really ahve a stock component left on it except the gas tank and ebox!

Both 08 I rode felt sloppy and felt like they swayed in the back a lot. I figured I wasn't familiar with the set up they had, and they were more powerful than mine so I wasn't sure. I haven't ridden them enough to know for sure.

However, I added a set of rear sponsons to my 04 and it gave me a lot of stability. No more away in the back on mine. I made the rear sponsons by laying up glass in visqueen, compressing it and letting it dry, cut the fin, made my shape, bolted on with some stainless bolt. Made them for $5 in material, less than a hour of actual work. Helped a lot to race and rec ride but can be removed quick and easy.

my 2013 does the same thing, but its not unridable. it just takes a little bit to get used to it. i can get it up to 3/4 throttle before i get too scared of the speed lol. I had a chance this weekend to ride my buddy's 07 sj and his step dads SN. I disagree with the post 08 turning being sloppy. I'm not very good and i can practically lay down in the water on a turn. they hook up so much better than the older ones. i wasnt able to turn quite as sharp on the others because they tended to slide a little bit. but like i said, im not a very good rider yet so take my opinion with a grain of salt. The other guys rode my ski and loved how hard you could turn. both also mentioned a little bit of a weird wobble.

The +2008 Superjets turn just fine if you just lay them over aggressively. The prior model years had more throw in the steering but turned flat. If you're used to the earlier SJ and get on a +2008, you'd think it doesn't turn well.

This pic was taken as I was at full throttle trying to catch back up with the boat. I do not understand why people think this ride unstable it's all about tray position and how well you react with the boat.

makes sense. coming form a 650sx, it took me half a day to get used to it.

When you have a stock motor the boat tops out at 43-45mph max. you can ride anything WOT at that speed lol. get over 50 and they start getting wobbly.

So what you are saying is the '08 handles just as well as the '07 and he should stop trying to ride the '08 like its an '07.

It's kind of like telling your new girlfriend she doesn't ride quite like the old one but youre going to ride he the same none-the-less. Youre going to get thrown off.

Makes sense to me. Try some new positions.

i rode 2011 last year completely stock. I had the same issues of wobble at 3/4 throttle. I hated it for about 1 week. everybody that rides it says the same thing. But can you ever carve a ski course. I did some jetting and and leaned it out and now it seem to power right through the issue

Same issues with my '10 SJ when I first got it. I traced the problem to the rear bondrail. I cut reliefs in the back corner to allow water to flow out straight instead of grabbing the rail. Never had the "wobble" again. The rear of the 08+ SJ bottom hulls are also quite a bit narrower than the previous years causing the rear to sit a bit more in the water.
