So I did a thing..

Moment I saw the ad... Knew I was going to have to buy it. Was really on the fence of spending the money. Wanna finish up the Vision. But convinced myself a 30 year old ski was suitable for a 30th present to myself.

Picked it up Monday night. Wonderful ski... even more wondeful seller.

Gave it a quick hit with the polisher first thing. I HAD to see what could be. Definitely had my work cut out for me

Pictures don't really show the grossness. But tons of old muck. Faded stickers etc.

One side done quick just to see!

Next day. Got to work.
Tons of ugly, this dead solas sticker was surgically removed.

Sadly the polisher grabbed a little sticker. But overall way better.

The bottom front 1/3 of both sides namely the starboard side were covered in all this brown crunchy sapp looking stuff. Had to razor blade it all off was a pain, failed to take an image.

Attacked the trim/rubber plastic thingy

DONE.....For now.

As far as I can tell
Stock 61x
Bpipe
Loud AF Aluminum waterbox
Stock 44 w/ FA
JD intake & grate
Stock 122 pump

Still need to investigate impeller & electronics. I expect something solid impeller wise.. stock electronics.

Plans?
-Ride it.
-bilge pump
-If wax releases the drop in 144. That ASAP.
-Refine the 61x/setup if I see the need.

Kinda tempting to toss my Superjet 61x into this.. build this motor as a 735. Put the Vision 760 in the superjet just to get it all broken in... Lot of moving pieces ugh. Easy though.

I really wanted one of these in this condition. Worn in but fully intact in terms of OEMness. Beyond stoked.

A 650 Kawasaki pump swap is a lot easier. A 144 needs the entire inlet enlarged for it to work any better.

If their solutions less invasive regarding chopping up the hull. I'd rather that frankly. See what comes of it.

Conceptually I'm on board with the tunnel volume.

But I've defied that in the past with sitdowns with great success shoving bigger pumps in Seadoo's

Maintainability alone of a 144 vs the 650 pump is worth it to me. Ripping the whole thing apart to change an impeller is wack.

First off nice ski. second we have the shoe finished, we have the nozzle ready to go its the liner section we are working now. when you take the shoe right ut completely and make a new one it can go to 144 on the tunnel

The small fx1 inlet is too small to feed even a Kawasaki 140 at slow speeds. It won’t pull out of the hole as well. At least use the longer Superjet driveshaft for a 144 installation. That would require the least amount of hull cutting and provide some much needed inlet area. An extension will obviously need to be made. Pulling a Yamaha pump seems easier if you ignore the fact that dirt will likely get on the splines. Ever wonder why so many riders have stripped splines? It’s always after they have changed the impeller. Cleaning the mid shaft and tunnel is more work than pulling a Kawasaki pump. Sit downs work better with smaller inlets than stand ups do.

Do you ride a fx1? Ya sound like a 650sx guy. I think the fx intake feeds the 140 and 144 just fine if setup correctly . Frankyfx thinks it feeds his 148 just fine. I've had 4 different pump swapped fx1s and have ridden several others. The SJ intake definitely helps with low end and hookup, but to say that the 144 pump with FX intake is no better than the stock 122 is just false. In some ways I prefer the fx intake. Yamaha splines strip from poor alignment. Put grease on your splines, not dirt.

I was comparing a 140 to a 144 with the stock inlet. I have done a few pump swaps on various skis. I know larger inlets pull harder at low speeds. I suppose an easy bolt in swap that works better will have a lot of appeal. The inlet needs to be enlarged before a larger pump will be 100%.
