01 YZ 125 for $1000.00 good or bad

I know of someone selling a 2001 YZ125. I have ridden the bike a few times off-road my self and it runs great, needs new clutch plates and a top end. other than that its in great shape. Its got a coolhead cylinder head and i think an fmf pipe but not sure about the pipe. I own an rm 250 but want to switch to 125, cause i dont ride alot and its really fun to ride that super lite bike.


What you think? is a 1000.00 a good deal.

If that is all it needs, not a bad price! For a few hundred bucks, and a little time you would have a fresh motor as well.... But sounds pretty beat. Look at the rims for dents, check to see what the filter looks like.... Are you sure it only needs a top end?

That is the first thing I thought about as well. He might say it just needs a topend, but it might need more. Sometimes a topend = a new bore and a cylinder recoating (Nikasil) and that is $$$. Probably somewhere around 400-500 bucks.

Why do you say it needs a topend? Time for one on the scheduled maintenance? Low compression? engine locked up? Will it currently run?

I personally would be very weary of buying it, but then again, you always run that risk when you buy something used like that.
