1991 super jet 650 will not accelerate

Thanks for the information, always good to hear bits of knowledge and experience. As far as it being the correct stator I have to assume it is. I ordered it twice from SBT and it says for SJ650, but neither worked. I’ll be getting an OEM stator but damn they’re expensive.

    Won’t accelerate

Kept receiving bad stators from SBT. Engine would start fine but would not accelerate. Now in the market for a new stator…..1991 Superjet 650 I do. Removed stator from another 1991 super jet 650 with known good stator, worked good.

    Won’t accelerate

Update. Found the problem. It was a bad Stator……brand new from SBT. This is the second bad Stator I have gotten from them. They also will not honor the warranty on the replacement saying they are only honoring the warranty on the original “bad” Stator they sold me. I tore apart everything...

1991 super jet 650 will not accelerate

Thank you so much MThomps, that is an excellent article! However, although it’s an item that has to be addressed, I don’t believe it is my issue. To recap, the original problem was the stator went out, I replaced the stator, afterwards the engine would not accelerate. I then used an aftermarket...

1991 super jet 650 will not accelerate

Thanks for the info brother. I’m not familiar with the leak down test. Do you know where I can find instructions on that procedure?

1991 super jet 650 will not accelerate

The engine just gargles. Spark plugs are wet. My most recent attempt to fix this problem is I changed out the reed valves. No go. However, after changing the reed valves I did notice the jug gasket has a leak while running it for a leak check on the reed gaskets. I don’t believe a leaking jug...

1991 super jet 650 will not accelerate

Stator went out, relaced stator And it started no problem, however will not accelerate. Replaced carburetor and slaved in all electrical components from another SJ 650 which runs great. Still same problem. Circled back to stator, believing the initial stator I installed must have been...

    Won’t accelerate

Still have the same problem, idles fine but will not accelerate. Have replaced all electronic parts including a new stator. Is it possible that I did something wrong installing the stater? It’s pretty straightforward. I aligned the timing mark in the center. Woodruff key is intact and not...

    Won’t accelerate

That is a good point. To be honest I’ve only observed the spark through my tester, which actually makes all spark look yellow because of the bulb.

    Won’t accelerate

The only anomaly I have noticed is when I do a voltage check of the stater while turning the engine over. I should be reading 30 to 50 V depending on battery charge. I’m getting 70. Never seen one that high.

I thought the same thing, rebuilt the carburetor no change, purchased a new carburetor and installed, no change. The spark is orange yellow.

    Won’t accelerate

Yes, I troubleshot it with a CDI from a similar JetSki. That JetSki had an aftermarket CDI. The JetSki worked fine for about 20 minutes and then burned up the CDI.

1991 super jet 650 Lost spark, replaced stator with SBT stator. Starts fine but won’t advance past idol. Any suggestions?

    1991 SJ650 superjet

Ended up being the grounding points inside the electronic box. Cleaned contacts and bought new grounding bolts for the ground points.
