If Art modded your carbs, they are now better than stock. Regular off the shelf universal 44's are really good. OEM carb are just that. They are designed to meet OEM Specs, and EPA standards. The low speed circuit is different than performance carbs.

62t is by far my favorite. We learned this many years back from switching couch engines into to Sqaures. They run really good! Easy to do a quick port match, but even left alone they can really run well. Personally I am not a fan of the stock 44's. I would go stock 38's, or if you do want 44's...

We typically take them out. I find they rub on the hull inside, and actually cause damage. We do know of many that ride Surf though, that do leave them in.

Correct. Same length. The thread size for the coupler on the SN is smaller. You can replace a SN Shaft with a RN one, you will just need a coupler to match the shaft. 650 SN Skis had the smaller housing. 61x 701 SN Skis have the larger housing, same as RN Skis.

Pretty simple really. They both are normally open switches with 4 wires. Yamaha switch is black/white for stop, and red/brown for start. Just plug into your kaw start / stop wires. Going by memory, I am pretty sure an old JS is white/orange start, and blue/black stop.
