does the carb and choke cleaner that you would buy at at auto store hurt the seals and stuff in the carb?

just bought a 1990 x2 650 has a westcoast head and pipe rides fine while wide open but if you fall off a few times and kill it it loads up really bad and dies as soon as you give it some throttle. i think its the stock carb have any ideas on were to start?
