So got my plugs in yesterday...I screwed up and put the exhaust tube and the one way tube too low. I don't think what I ordered is gonna work...argh....!
Here are pics of the hood prior to nose chop of course. You can see the foam I have yet to cut behind the ski. I am going to go horizonal across the tray with the foam standing up. I think that will let me cut out all the tubes and such and use one piece as a template for the next.
Sorry for the delay in response...been away in Detroit for the Holidays and just getting back. BTW...I scored a lowered hood that was done with carbon fiber for $50 from a buddy of mine that was doing a similar project and gave up on it. It is only 10 lbs! I 'll post a pic here in a second...
Thats a great idea with the plugs but what about these? Supercheap and in in like 10 seconds.

No I did not reinforce...I ddin't plan to as the foam is going in that...
Here is where I am at. One way valve on the left and lowered exhaust on the right. The pvc tube is 1/2 to the pump tunnel area and is for the trim cable.
I love the plugs you fabbed. I have never seen that I was just going to try and buy them off ebay. I just cut the tube off and used 5200 and some resin on the outside. I don't think the flange on the end is really that important as the guy who builds hulls here locally leaves them the way I...
I have some of the thickest cloth available on the market that I used on the inside. I only needed to do two internal layers to match the thickness of the hull. The resit is filled with thickened resin. I used Cabosil to thicken it. That is probably about 1/8 of an inch thick.
It did come...
One way valve is what I am calling an poor ma's scupper as its been called for a long time. I even fabbed a screen to keep debris out of the one way as that is also an issue. Shouldn't be for me now. I also have dual bilges set up.
I really don't agree that you wont take on that much...
Hmm...well maybe I'll just man up and cut the foam. Sigh...Pita...this project just keeps on growing.
I might start a thread soon. Quince did you do the poor mans scupper?
Does it come in sheets? How are you using it. Everyone I have spoken with tells me its not worth the time to cut all of the pieces. That the pour foam is the way to go.
I know you have already cut all of the pieces out so you can use them as templates if you have to recut (I am guessing you do).
Its probably trimmed to fit the exhaust pipe. On the 1990's hull the pipe sits high in the engine compartment and then angles down to the base to exit the exhaust. This was done to prevent water intrusion back up the pipe when sitting. You will most likely have to cut the whole tray out to...
what in the world is that? I have never even heard of it. So I made a little progress. In between web design work, a brake job, shoveling 3 tons of gravel, family gatherings, care taking for my grandparents and taking a buddy out for a beer on his b day I laid a little resin thickened with a...
No I am in Mesa, Arizona...I got to attend Beer Camp a few years ago at Sierra Nevada and really enjoyed my time in Chico. Got to go to some cool bars and meet some great ppl.
I sanded a bit last night and didn't wet sand and could already see my skin getting irritated. No shirt ...oh...
meh...I am only putting an hour in here or there. I have so many things going on in my life that I am just using this as kind of an escape. I have done something pretty similar with my first build so I might have had a better idea of what to expect. I don't think I'll be done with mine until...
Very nice man....but terrible news on the sleeves...did you not wetsand to keep the dust and such down? Ugh! that sucks.
So far I have:
- Cut the lowered exhaust hole and filled the old one I cut the lowered one just below the tray line as I really still want some uphill for the water...
I got a little glass laid this weekend but the interior layers are definately uglier than the exterior. I did you sand/grind down the exterior of the hull to compensate for the extra layers on the outside? or did you just blend it?
Chris..I think you are right..that is an expensive thought process. I could very well be over propped but Imrpros thought I would be right on. Fortunately I can repitch my prop 2 degrees up or down (do you ever do your own pitch work?...I never have but have a buddy that does it).
Chris...
I know you are probably correct. This motor was actually pulling pretty hard but it just doesn't have the snap a ported 701 with a bb sleeve has. Was wondering if there was any way to manufacture that as I have a pretty good set up. I did get the 10/16 hooker in there and it seems to pull...
