The nice thing about an X2 is there are a lot of cheap or almost free mods you can do to it to make it much better, the pipe mod, cutting the back off , installing bearings in the steering head, all cheap or almost free.

A 650 can easily be made to run circles around a stock small pin 750. the one in my ski will eat a 750's lunch.

Pull that engine apart for an inspection. X2s are the easiest skis to swamp so there is an outsized chance of corrosion pits on the bearings. The 650 isn't bad but you absolutely need a good pipe and impeller. A later #2000 series CDI have a retard curve and a good rev limiter. You are probably at least $2000 away from bringing it up to "fast and reliable".

Kevbo is probably right , when I worked at the stealership we called the U2's they sank so much , and mine was sunken several times when I owned it as well .

Haha not making me feel too great about this purchase! :p

But yeah, I plan to go through the whole thing this winter. Also, is the bypass pipe mod worth the effort? I've seen conflicting information on this. I figure that's easy enough I can do it while I have it apart. Also if so, is it worth the effort to drill and tap holes and reroute the water to the end of the stinger as opposed to just teeing between the head and pipe and adding another pisser like big Kahuna suggested?

Warming up the pipe will make it work a little better and gain a few rpm. Without a low pitched impeller the mod is of little value. Just ride it stock and plan for a thorough round of maintenance/ modification. A big carb and loud muffler wont do anything meaningful by themselves. A 650 will need to be taken up to the edge of pump gas before it will pull riders much over 150lbs.

Yes the whole thing is fairly simple and well worth it IMHO.

Keep the stock bilge and add an electric bilge. The x2s are notoriously bad for taking on water and sinking. I let someone who had never rode an x2 ride mine in some slightly rougher water conditions and he lasted 30 seconds before sinking it. I got to spend the next 45 min getting rhe water out and rhe engine fired up again.

I agree an electric bilge pump or even dual bilge pumps is a reallg good idea on an X2 , they take on a lot of water and sink really fast .
