BS yes it is true that the entire ski runs off the small gauge black ground wire that ends at the stator but if the negative battery cable is bad the small gauge black wire has no other ground path to the battery except for the ground cable , slice and dice that anyway you want to but bad ground cable equals no ground .

Spark has to jump to ground to work, all AC circuits still require a ground to work , pure , simple and factual.

For sure you don't have to believe me but the proof is in the pudding , unplug the ground from your coil or CDI and see if you still have spark, I know for a fact that you won't but hey I am just the average village idiot with 35+ years in repairing all things ski related on various brands, what the hell do I know.

Post #10 mentioned the issue happened with oem and msd cdi.

Of course if you unplug one of the wires from the coil you will lose spark. You would be opening the circuit.

The proper test to prove / disprove would be lift the negative battery lead off the battery once the ski has already started and see it it continues to run.

The battery negative terminal is not ground. You are connecting the negative terminal to ground.

The AC potentials are created across the the AC coils. They receive thier ground reference from bonding one side of the coil to ground, which in the case of the Superjet, is the stator plate / engine block.

I will agree that on an AC powered ignition system the engine block is ground , lawn mowers, weedeaters , small motorcycles , ATV'S and most Jet ski ignition systems work this way and yes once it is started you can remove the battery from the equation entirely and it will still run just fine.

Battery acts as a buffer for transients and spikes in voltage.
Regulator rectifier could have intermittent grounding loss due to multiple cable and crimp issues and lose its ability to function.
Loss of spark and function caused by overheating components and fried sensitive electronics.
Apples to tomatoes but it happens constantly to guys running total loss when they have insufficient grounding or loss of ground.

That is kind of my thought as well and yes the battery gets severely abused if it goes above 15 V , the CDI , MSD ENHANCER , whatever won't survive long with that kind of voltage either , it looks to me like he has just been throwing parts at this thing without diagnosing the real problem , the assault on his wallet will continue .

You can create a perfect ground situation by removing the plugs , grabbing them and spinning the engine over , the coil will find it's ground I assure you .

WFO, you’re about right on throwing new parts. I was pretty confident the electrical was secure because the ski starts strong which proves a solid ground. Though I did get a lot of comments in regards to the connections. I totally appreciate everyone’s help. I have taken it and now in the process of redoing all connections and swapping to marine grade wire and connectors. I’m going back to all stock also. I’m still seriously thinking the flywheel is causing the issue. Once I have it running solid, I’m gonna drop in a different aftermarket flywheel. Anyone want to buy this one? I’m scared to use this one again. I think it will fry the Cdi or stator again.
This thread has been awesome! I didn’t expect so much help. I hope this helps others. What a great family the jet ski world has.

Giving solid advice and helping others is how we keep the sport alive and thriving, and this forum. We all started with limited to no knowledge. This forum has helped me learn a tremendous amount of jetski and composite knowledge. Its a very good feeling too knowing the time you spent documenting a fully custom build 10 years later inspired and helped others learn how to modify their skis as well. I did a thorough build thread on my first ski which was a 550 over 10 years ago on pwctoday.com and have seen my build referenced many times especially after the vintage scene has taken off. I built that ski just before the 550s became popular again. Knowledge is something that cant be taken away once you have it. Personally I can't stand disgracebook and always come here first for solid 2 stroke and general jetski knowledge.

F-CKBOOK is a great place to get opinions from people who either don't know anything or don't know that they don't know anything , I stopped giving any advice there because someone always wants to argue with you no matter what you post , I am all for differing opinions , don't get me wrong , sometimes I learn something I didn't know but I never have on Facebook.
