I agree with your assessment of Nick Saban and that's saying something because I am an Auburn fan.

No doubt Alabama had a massive dynasty under Saban. I think he was the best at paying players. Once NIL became legal, he became average.
Maybe it was his wife getting so sick it was unfixable?
I don't think any actual college ball fan or employee actually likes the NIL, they totally overcompensated, but Saban wasn't an Urban Meyer or a Pete Carroll who skips town once it goes ugly.

He adapted to any change, He hated the portal, but he did a hell of a job utilizing it. He decided he did not have the energy to give it 20 hours a day any more to the level he use to.
