1998 zxi 1100 no spark

I recently lost spark while out on the water a week ago and have been going crazy trying to fix this. I have replaced the stator because that was bad but still no change after. I check the trim control box and there was no power coming out so I hotwired the red and orange wires together. I also replaced the whole electrical box and still no change. I get a spark when I release the ignition button not that is all I get. I have about .3 volts coming out of the igniter wire which supplies the ignition coils. But when I connect a test light it only lights as I release the button. Can’t seem to figure out what went wrong here. Feel I have tried everything

To me it sounds like you possibly have two bad CDI boxes , basically when you check a CDI box , you check around it, check the stator output going in the CDI then see what voltage is coming out of it going to the coils if it has power going in but none or an incorrect amount coming out and the trigger coils are working the CDI is bad.

Ok, I have about 72 volts going into stator from red and purple wire. I have .33 volts coming out of cdi going to the igniter like I said. Does that sound like a bad number. They don’t give a reading on what it should be. When I try both boxes I have the same issue where it only sparks when ignition is released. So possibly bad boxes? There’s another I can try and get should I give it a shot?

Sorry meant 72 volts coming out of stator

Yes plug in another CDI box and give it a go , I know what you are thinking two bad boxes , no way but I sold a guy on here a Yami 1200 box, his was bad , so was the one I sent to him apparently , and last year I repaired a Seadoo GTX, bad CDI box , I put another one in, when I Summerized it it stalled and died , that CDI box was bad as well , you are dealing with 25-35 year old electrical parts here in most cases.

Ok I will see if I can go buy it. Found a cheap one on marketplace. Hopefully it’s not bad as well. Is there any website I can buy parts that I know they will work such as companies that test the parts first? If it helps you diagnose, the ski felt a little weak when I took it out the day it died. Would that be associated with cdi as well? Or would that be associated with the stator being bad

Here is the thing , there is no way to test a CDI except install it in the ski and see if it works or not , most parts come from dead skis so it's a risk plain and simple , all I can say is buy it from someone that will stand behind their product .

Ok thank you for your input. I will give a few attempts and get back to you

Hopefully I can get it running within 2 weeks because I go away for college and won’t have much time to work on it when back so if I don’t respond that’s why lol

I’m talking to the guy I bought the cdi from and he claims it 100% ran when he had it. Is there anything else that could cause the issue or does it seem it’s definitely the cdi?

Have you checked the trigger coils , no trigger pulse equals no spark , no neither I or anyone else can say for sure it's a bad CDI , we are not there running electrical checks , you are .

Ok I just tested the magneto (green and blue wire coming from stator plug) I get 1.2 volts while cranking but when I put the test light on it, it only lights up when start button is released. Could this mean bad magneto or possibly bad flywheel. I just bought this stator from sbt brand new last week.

Buy a shop manual , even if it's a clymer manual , yeah I know that's what everyone says, you know why they say that , because it has all the electrical tests voltage and ohm specs in it and you can rule out what's good and bad before replacing expensive parts , you are throwing parts at this thing and using SBT stuff so they are not even good parts.

I don't mean to be harsh or rude here but I tend to be quite direct , call it a character flaw.

Throwing parts at a ski in hopes of fixing it usually is expensive and as you are now seeing , it doesn't usually turn out that well.

I also tried another working cdi with no luck. I’ve tried 2 starter relays. Cant find any grounds that seem bad
