Help I've got company coming and our 94 701 WaveRaider dash is showing overheating issue

I've got the cleanest 100% stock 94 WaveRaider you can imagine. Starts and runs like it's new. We let guests learning to ride use it before they try a stand up.

The pisser has full flow, engine temp is 100* with heat gun and exhaust is about 130* -145*. It's not really overheating, but the dash shows it is. When you ride it for 30min to an hour and shut it off, when you start it back up it shows that it's overheating on the display and goes into limp mode (only idles). Nothing you do will kick it out of limp mode til the engine 100% cools back down.

I suppose it could be an issue with the display unit , I hope not, everything else on it works as it should.
I'm also hoping it's not a CDI issue and it's just the sensor in the head. Anyone know can I just take it off the head so it doesn't get hot? Maybe just unplug it? Not sure how it works, maybe wires need to be spliced together to fool it????

I would think it probably closes a circuit when it gets hot so no , tying the wires together is probably the opposite of what you want to do , most likely just unplug it inside of the electrical box .

That sounds right, I need to see if the wires have a plug outside the ebox.

NO , THEY DON'T , DON'T EVEN HAVE TO LOOK, CUT THE WIRES AND USE THEM TO RUN A BILGE PUMP OR SOMETHING.

You can just unscrew the bolt that holds the temp sensor in and pull it out and cable tie it away from the head....it will stay cool that way.....just be sure that your engine is cooling properly and you dont have sand inside the cylinder head or a blockage elswhere.

I’ve had water saturated grease on top of the temp sensor , under the rubber boot where the 2 little pieces of heat shrink are, trigger it. Seemed to happen once a season, easily solved by cleaning and regreasing with fresh dielectric .
Another possibility, this is the birds nest my buddy gets once a season because he can’t stay out of the weeds….

Just cut the wires to the sensor, heat shrink/tape the ends separately and you'll be good if it truly is the sensor malfunctioning.
