Major bog issue

Hey folks. I need fresh eyes on this problem. Running out of patience.

Took it out of storage since last year, fresh gas, rebuild carb with mikuni parts last year. Ran awesome for 1-2 minutes then after another 30 seconds Major bog. Started with right turn bog then barely got back to the dock.

Riva red. Ported, 1.25 out on low. 1-7/8 high. 2.0 needle. Ran awesome last season.

I”ve been fiddling with it on the trailer/hose and can’t even get it to rev out with no load.

It isnt “dying” just hard bog until it flames out. No trouble restarting.

Thoughts:

Fuel filter?
Temp sensor?
Cdi?

I’m at the cottage so looking for field fixes if you have any hah.

Thanks lads!!

I know you said you rebuilt the carb last year but it sounds like you let it sit with fuel in it for too long and the poopty ethanol fuel we have is highly corrosive and attracts moisture. Probably have some trash in the carb or clogged filter etc.. pull the carb and go through it again. Also when you rebuilt the carb, did you check popoff with a gauge? Id also check your popoff to verify its correct first

Check the internal fuel filter and all the jets for cloggs. it's not the temp sensor, and if it's bogging then eventually "flames out" (shuts off?) then i would not think it is electrical. This sounds fuel related.

I have seen Ethanol fuel gel up in as little as two months before, I would pull the carbs and go through them again, it sounds lean to me , bogging usually means not enough fuel -lean.

Simple stuff first, don't make the problem more complex than it has to be.

Thank you all for the good suggestions. To close the loop on this issue I had two blown gaskets on my red pipe. Between the waterjacket and exhaust, only visible after removing the manifold since from the outside everything looked fine (never seen that before). And where the manifold meets the chamber I had water pouring out of it.

For now I’m giving up on my Riva red. Makes good power but now that it’s July Id rather ride than wrench.

oh dang! I should have guessed. That happened to me last season with my Protec Mach II... Glad you found it! I don't blame you for wanting to ride over wrench. I am thinking about buying a TR1 SJ for just that reason.
