it worked!!!! i havent taken it to the water yet but it dident backfire :) i think the two pulser wires were touching them selfs...so stoked to see the 550 alive again..at least i wont run into this problem again hope this helps someone else out there..
im going to re wire the whole stator back because it is a 20 plus year old machine see where that gets me then try to figure out how to use a timing light on it.. i dont know how to control the revs like it says to time it but we will see...
did you ever figure out what it was cuz mines doing the same thing... the things i did to try fixing it was changed the spark plugs and cut back wiries then i looked into timing took off the stator cover and noticed oil so i changed the crank seals and why i was in there did a top end and put...

the wires are on the right plugs and ive been through the whole stator...i have the timing marks lined up but it still backfires...thanks for the input tho...
