Dont do that! lol that motor will suck the tape in and then you will really have problems. Take the time to tune your carb, put new plugs in (NGK BR8ES) and make sure you gap them. CARB probably needs a rebuild. You can get a kit online for under 35 bucks. Dont buy winderosa only genuine mikuni...
Try adjusting the low speed screw. Turn it all the way in and then back it out 3/4 of a turn and see if it starts. Get it in the water and adjust from there.
440 pump is better but ive heard you need an aftermarket bulkhead if you go 650 or bigger. 550 pump will bolt right up but you will have to install 550 driveshaft.
Def cant tune on the hose. Once you drop in the water it will run completely different. My suggestion would be to set the idle a little high before you drop it in. If unfamiliar with tuning these carbs do some research on tuning before you start. It will save a huge headache. Happy tuning!
