I just got a diagnostics done at the shop they said it was my cdi that caused the problem so if your buddys ski is still messed up I would check that out. It sounds quite a bit like what mine was doing so i wouldnt be surprised if that was it.

I just had what sounds like the same thing happen to me 2 days ago... I was out riding ran fine than just died, the battery is fine you can hear it turning over it just wont fire... Checked for spark and there was nothing! This was on an 04 sx-r
