I've had no issues with my 701 surf plugs. I do clean them out on a regular basis. I've been running them for almost year. As for the rear chop. I suggest riding one before you chop it.
IMO if you don't want to spend the down time of glassing and still want keep the stock look, buy the 701 industries rocker kit. It installs in 15mins and works very well. As for glassed in rocker kits. I made my first rocker kit and shortened my ski 3.5" in the back and rode like a sport bike...
