New to pit bikes

Location

I was just minding my own business last weekend and ran across a garage sale in my neighborhood. Well they just happened to have a running pit bike for $100. Figured I could have fun with it. It does need some work but like I stated above I know nothing about these. Only messed with cars and jetskis. I know it is a chinese bike. Has the name Cruz-in Motorsports. The guy said it was 110cc but I am not completely sure. I have searched some pitbike forums but they do not seem that good. Anyone have any info or point to a good resource on these. The code on the engine is 139FMA. Any idea what size the engine is or specs? The guy stated it was based off a honda.

That's got a sideways motor compared to what I normally see.

There should be a number stamped on the engine somewhere. My bet is it's a 49cc. A google search of the engine number confirms this.

It's a lifan engine, whatever that is. Atleast that's what I read.

Following that assumption, look for a distributor if you need parts: http://www.americanlifan.com/lifan4/dirtbikes.html

I've never seen a honda that looks anything like that. Do you have any other questions about this?

Ive got a honda crf50 and most of the parts are from china, and will bolt right up to your bike. There should be marks on the shifter side of the jug with the engines CC's post up a pic of the engine up close. clean it up and ride!

Other than the purpose the name implies, what's the point of these? Just a fun little thing to putt around on?

I'm not knocking at all, just wondering.

The same point there is in any pit bike.

Just a different manufacturer producing it outta china. It looks like landing a solid jump would break the thing in half, IMO.

Now we have Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki (I think), and Cruz-n.

Just the run of the mill cheap Chonda bike. Beat it up, add gas and oil but don't put to much money into parts. If you get into it and want something better do some research on www.planetminis.com and buy something else.

Well, my understanding is pitbikes were originally used as a means to quickly get around in the pits, hence the name.

Other then that, I can't see any real use for them either other then a kid's bike.

A properly setup "pitbike" can be a blast for an adult. I ride the hell out of my KLX110 in the woods and on the track. A set of tall bars, heavy springs and bigger pegs and it can take pretty much anything I throw at it (within reason). I logged probably twice as many hours on my pitbike than my ski this season.

The klx110 classifies as a pitbike??

Well, that changes things. I thought it had to be half the height of a normal bike (basically) to be called a pitbike. Just about anything relatively small can be called a pitbike then.

Pretty sure that's a 50cc. Cruz In made it in a 110 also but the motor looked completely different. They were sold at Checker Auto Parts several years ago. Here's a pic of the 110.

Pitbike is a term that is used pretty loosely, there is no set definition to what is or is not a pitbike.

OIC.

Not so loosely used when it comes to racing them in the PBRA.

EDIT: maximum wheelbase of 49" for 12"+ rear wheel models.

$100? Damn dude, that is a smokin' price if for real!

I raced a few times in doors last winter when we can't race the big bikes :baby:

Tons of fun! Here are a couple pics.

Sorry for the late reply guys. I did not get the reply email notification and have been busy. Well I have found the stamping on the motor. It is 139FMA and also states 05030502. I also joined the planetminis.com forum. For now, I just need to get things repaired. So far the stator cover is broke, needs and air filter, front brake lever is broke, new tubes for tires, and some misc bolts missing. Just need to figure out what to order parts for since I have no idea what this motor is. Anyway here is a few more pics. It does have some aftermarket goodies installed such as a FMF pipe and something on the head. Should be fun to mess around on and fetch the mail with.
