Where did all the 66e conversions go?

It seems a year ago the 66e conversion was huge, threads all over, builds with 800s, etc. but lately I haven't been seeing many builds or discussions. What happened? :dunno:

I would like to know how bets to convert to 927cc from 800 , who can give advise ?

resleeved big bore cylinders..... you can find big bore kits from the 1200R guys all the time..... the 1390 set-up is a common place mod with them... and all the parts from a 66V bolt to a 66E except for the one piece cylinder heads...

don't let anyone tell you that the 66v cylinder (1200) is better for 800 conversions. that is total bs.

use either 66e or 1300 PV cylinders.

Previous threads stated that the 66v cylinder had lower port timing and had better low end.

if you are doing big bore you can get the port timing adjusted.... for a flat out stock cylinder stock displacement swap, you want the 66E cylinders

the 66E had the better port timing...... if you had a 1200R stock class boat, you could swap out the cylinders for 66E cylinders and have a killer cheater boat for stock class

that is the false rumor. the only difference between the 66e and 66v is there is a little more port area on the transfers nearest the exhaust on the 66e. I have all the cylinders except the non PV 1300.

To answer the original question (My opinion)... I think you don't hear much about these conversions because there are VERY FEW that actually are running and even fewer that are running WELL. Those that jumped on the bandwagon thinking it was the way to go either never got it complete due to lack of parts or frustration in getting it all together and running.

Lets face it there is NO good exhaust solution to date for this setup. Sure WDK has their wet and dry pipes if you can get your hands on one and then will it hold together once you do get it? The manifold that Demon & Tom21 were working on might have been the answer, but it is dead in the water...

Performance... 66e's are HEAVY, both in overall weight and in flywheel/crankshaft weight. So they do not spool up quick like a 62t based platform... Unless of course you step up to total loss and a specially lightened crank - but who's doing that on a "budget"

All this being said, I know there are a select few people out there that have put the time and $$$ into these to make them work well (such as superramjet & WDK/Ski Clinic) and they can be incredible. I just dont think they are any sort of inexpensive big-power solution for the average rider (and budget).

If there are truly a bunch of these out there running well... please prove me wrong and post in this thread... let's see pics and tell us what pipe & ignition you're running, and how does it run?

(I don't think we'll see many responses)

It seems like the term "big power" and "budget" should be used loosely...when identically equipped it seems to be superior to the 701/760 platform. Its not a budget motor but when shopping smart can be done for a resonable price...right now it seems the biggest hangup is relying almost solely on WDK for parts.
Not trying to argue either way and like RMBC said, would like to see more people actually running this setup chime in.
