FX Bikes

Here's the deal. I DO NOT have the wife's blessing to go out and buy a dirt bike today. We did discuss things a bit and here's the deal. With her blessing (reluctantly) I am going to add my name to the waiting list to buy an FX Bike http://www.fxbikes.com/index.html I emailed the US rep in Cali and he has emailed me back. All of the 09's are sold. The 2010 models are expected to be available as street legal. The normal price to buy a 2010 is going to be the same as this year, $3995. I don't know how big the discount is and what the quantities are, but they offer group buy discounts. It costs nothing to get your name on the list and they will email you when the delivery date gets close to finalize the deal. Are any of you guys seriously interested in one?

I don't get it exactly ,its like a wannabe trials bike with a mx seat.

It's more of a mountain bike with a motor. Even back when I had a weak little dual sport, I mainly did trail riding. I could probably use a ktm trail bike, but this seems very interesting and about what I need. It's like X-2's. Not for everyone, but some people really like them.

I can sympathize with that I have a couple of trials bikes ,they are defiantly not for everyone.

id like to take one of those things for a spin and check it out. looks fun. i just dont know where we'd ride that around here. how many gears does it have?

I think if she will let you get this bike she is almost ready to let you get a full size motor cycle. For 4 grand you could have a real nice KTM. :scratchchin:

Not even 4 grand. I seen one on KTM talk for 2500 for a 2005. It might have a lot of hours but he said new top end and everything is new needs nothing. A street legal bike with the power you need. Just an option. I have learned with motorcycles, it is a lot cheaper than jet skis. A whole day of riding and only using .5 gallons of gas. I am not used to this.

It is a 125 it appears to be loosely based on an old Honda atc 110-125 engine like they use in a lot of the pit bikes, not worth anywhere near $4G IMO.

I get it. Not a full sized dirt bike. It's not supposed to be. It's based on downhill mountain bike components. It weighs 121lbs. It's meant for mainly technical trail riding. It's not meant to run side by side with the big boys. You can pick it up and throw it in the back of your truck.

just be sure youre not falling in love with "the idea" of it first. i gotta admit, i'm thinking its pretty dam cool... but once youre the only one out there with one, you might box yourself into a corner, where, for whatever reason(s) you either cant go where other people are going or be able to keep up with them or whatever...

IMHO, a big part of the fun of the sport is the group aspect! riding by yourself kinda sucks.

Yamasaki I agree the only kind of riding you might want to do by yourself is trials and that is dangerous to do by yourself,I have some excellent places to ride her but I can also set up a trials area in my backyard and have a blast as well.

I totally understand your position... It would be fun as hell on any single track (very tight riding). My only issue is the bike falls in between two very different sports. For instance you would want to ride that on a mountain bike trail, but if you did you would surely get your ass kicked and end up w/ a fat ticket. Mountain bikers would not put up w/ you having a motor on their trails even though it is essentially a mountain bike. Also, the MX, offroad crowd is gonna look at you like, what the hell is that toy??? Not that it matters what anyone thinks, just trying to figure out how you can get 4k worth of use and value out of it...

w/ that said... I would kill for one!!!!!!

I tend to like to be in the woods alone. I can ride with groups, but for me it doesn't matter either way. I ride my mountain bike alone always. I rode my dual sport and my four wheeler mostly alone. Actually, I tend to like it better. I can go at MY pace and go where I want to go. Group decisions never really work out 100% for anyone. Riding my ski is a different story. I prefer to ride with others or bare minimum have Emily as a spotter.

Yeah, it will take some thinking to justify the value of it. There are a couple places with hundreds of acres of trails open to anyone. Who knows, I may end up with a KTM. I am just really liking this concept for now and I think that by the time one is available to buy, I'll have my mind made up one way or the other. I'm not a track person. There are a couple pretty nice tracks within about an hour of here, but I have never had a desire to go.
