Ok, i bought this ski ( http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/3631 ) now a month ago. I payed via personal check and apon pickup he forgot the title... so i got him to sign a preatty detailed bill of sale...

He said he would send the title in the mail and its still has not came... called a few times and talked, he keeps saying its in the mail, but it doesent seem like hes ever going to send it... the bill of sale is not Noterized so i cant regestered at my local merina, but will all the merinas need a noterized bill of sale?

or can i apply for a lost title? and if i can how do i go about doing that?

any help would be great!
thanks,
-grif

If your close to the TN border go get it registered there. They're not a titling state and they don't need a title. Just a bill of sale. I've done it with a signature and price on a piece of notebook paper. They'll send you a litte registration card in the mail then you can get it registered/titled in NC. If your coming from a non titling state like TN they won't ask for one. I had to do this a couple times.

I say just F'k it and call the department of motor vehicles and ask if you need the title to register the ski / transfer ownership.

I'd say chances are pretty good he never had a title on the ski to begin with, or at least not a legal one. GA does not require title on PWCs, just basic registration, and all that's needed for that is a simple bill of sale (and actually not even that - you can contact DNR and they will register a boat with a notarized affidavit they send you claiming you do not have a bill of sale).

I havn't even had to have a bill of sale or a title to register in Georgia. Just go online. Both my skis are titled incase I ever need it or they change the laws. I actually think they should require a title. Those of you that have ever had a ski stolen can get where I'm coming from.

Yes i have a Signed bill of sale, but they will not let me regesture it under NC Wildlife.. this doesent require a tital, but i can get a ticket if i dont get it registured.. and they wont let me get it registured w/o the orgional tital or a NOTERIZED bill of sale... which the saler is no were to be found???? and he must be the one to noteriz it...

why not register it in GA with your name and the bill of sale you have?

then you have registration in GA in your name - take that to NC Wildlife and transfer the reg to NC

Voila!

Get a friend, go to a notary, tell them you're buying the boat off them, and you need them to notarize the bill of sale. The notary isn't gonna check to see who actually owns the boat.

Or register it in Georgia or TN then transfer it. I feel your pain. I bought a boat in Ohio, but didn't get a title. I even called the DMV in KY and asked them what I needed. They just said a bill of sale. Went to get it registered, and they asked for a title since Ohio was a titling state. The PO said he didn't have a title. I could've done a title search, and applied for one in Ohio. My parents live 10 min from TN, so I just got him to drive down there with a piece of notebook paper that that PO gave me. They registered it, but don't title boats. Then I transferred to KY.

Just plain me....
Becareful trying to get a BOS notarized that has a bogus signature on it. If a notary doesn't know the person, he/she is "supposed" to verify with an ID. It has to be signed in front of the notary.

The seller is not the one that can noterize it..........

others below have mentioned this.

OK....you are totally lost or confused or something. Did he cash the check or not? If he cashed the check, then what are you talking about him keeping your check? If the check is cashed, then he has the money & it's not going to clear the bank a second time.

Have you bothered to call GA to see what the procedure is for applying for a lost title? I don't know anything about registration procedures in GA, but that might be a good place to get you started.

EDIT: Have you checked with NC to see what exactly they require for registering?

I sold 2 skis to guys in NC and I sold them with clean/clear Titles and both times they came back to me and said they needed a notorized bill of sale from me. One was about 4 years ago and one was about 3 years ago.

Sounds like a tough place to register skis!

YEAH WTF is up with NC?
I think the wildlife offercers Dads, moms, Uncles, sisters, all had there PWC stolen in the past couple years so they made it impossable for anyone to registure a PWC unless its brand new....

I'm in charlotte, so GA and Tenn. are pretty far out of the way...
Anyone know what i can do in South Carolina? maby i can suck up to a noterizor enoulf to give me a FKin break and stamp it...
