Wisdom Teeth Removal

I had all 4 cut out yesterday. The two on top had cavities in both of them nesitating their removal. The two bottoms should have been out years ago when I had braces. One was partially uncovered, almost all the way, the other barely had anything peeking out. I had to have an oral surgeon put me to sleep and remove them. I woke up when he was way laying on my jaw with a hammer and chisle. Then I passed back out. That tooth hurts the most. The top ones are not that bad. Yesterday sucked, the percoets made me sick and I puked once. Today I feel bad but I put off taking my pain meds until a few mins ago. All in all I am doing better than I expected. Just wanted to hear you guy's and gal's stories on having your mouth worked on. This remionds me of getting braces but worse!

Wisdom teeth suck!!! Impacted wisdom teeth suck even worse!!!

Don't suck on anything for a month. Not cigarettes, cigars, the pipe, or even a straw. You'll regret it if you do...

U have any of the tooth left in your mouth? I've still got a tiny bit of my impacted wisdom tooth.

They didn't have cavities, but were crowding into each other on 1 side requiring their removal. The other side is still in.

I had mine taken out while I was already under for jaw surgery so they were a piece of cake....now having your jaw broken and moved followed by 5 weeks of having your mouth wired shut SUCKED!!!
:crutches:
I was/am a dental hygienist and a boss of mine did wisdom teeth all the time...most of the time it's a pretty simple surgery.

Just plain me....
I only had 3 wisdom teeth. Also had to be put to sleep by oral surgeon. Cut & chisled those buggers out; one was already wrapped around my jaw. I took a pain pill about 3 hrs later & never slowed down. Never took another pill. Doc couldn't believe I did so well after what he had put me thru.

My sister on the other hand laid on the couch for 3 days & looked like she had gone 10 rounds in the boxing ring. Of course, she milked it for all it was worth because she's a wuss when it comes to pain.

Yeah no smoking for me, I never picked up that habit. I have been trying not to hack up my blood louggies or anything like that. Not sure if they left any piece of root or anything in there. I know it is on the waiver that they may have to do that. They did tell me that they were soem tough teeth. So I guess that is a good thing that I have strong teeth. I am 28 and a half and the teeth have been growing in my jaw for a while. This is why you should get them out in your late teens/early twenties. No need to let them get grown in good. Oh well, it is over now, lets just hope everything heals up ok.

That Pansy St. is like Dentist alley. There is like 4 or 5 different offices on it. He is in his mid to late 50's I would say. I am pretty impressed with his work thus far. When he did the IV, he sprayed some cool stuff like wart remover to numb my arm. First time anyone has ever done that. Pretty neat considering I hate to get blod drawn or IV's. All depends on the nurse/doctor though. I have had some that are good at it to where you never feel it. He is a bit of a nut job though. He was like those are nice veins... some drug addicts would kill for veins like that! I said "yeah I was watching that intervention show last week on A&E"... lol

I had my wisdom teeth removed not that long ago. Well I had three of them removed, the fourth is still in there and is the cause of my dental horror story:

I had Zero money when I was in school and just after I dropped/flunked/ran out of money and couldn't attend school any longer. Anyway I had a filling fall out of my back left bottom tooth. I didn't have insurance or money enough to go to the dentist and have it taken care of so I just let it wait til I had money. Fast forward 4 years and the tooth is now literally falling apart in my mouth. I was eating ibuprofen and washing them down with ambisol. It hurt so bad that I was losing sleep. I also had my wisdom teeth coming in again and that tooth was getting pushed on from my wisdom tooth causing it to break and crack even more. It was cracked completely down to the nerve. The week that Kara and I got married and i was now insured :woot: I went to the dentist to have that tooth removed. The doctor took an x-ray and told me that he didn't want to remove it because the entire area was infected and he couldn't numb it properly. He said he wanted me to take some penicilin for a week or two and come back once the infection had been killed. I begged him to do the removal and he reluctantly agreed. He got two more assistants to hold me down and numbed it as best he could. When he grabbed the tooth to pull it out the tooth broke into like three or four pieces. It hurt like mad when he was pulling out that tooth but the second it was over it felt SOOOOO much better than when I walked in his door. I didn't need but one pain pill because even the pain from the tooth extraction was way less than the pain from the exposed nerve.

the moral of the story: scrape, scrounge, borrow, do whatever you need to do in order to get your teeth taken care of before it gets too bad.

You are so correct. There is absolutely NO reason not to take care of your teeth. So many dentist will work with you on payment plans if you don't have insurance, etc. Dental health is one of my pet peeves. Other than monetary reasons, I don't understand why people let their teeth rot out of their heads. Sorry...tooth rant over -lol

I had all 4 done, pretty badly impacted. Was completely fine the next day with no swelling. Percocets made the whole thing litterally painless and I slept for 2 days in a nice opiate induced haze. 3rd day I was back to work, popping a few motrin pills. I was expecting alot worse and wish I did it years earlier. Would have saved alot of stress. Good trick, if you tell the surgeon that you are terrified of dental work, they will give you valuim pills to take before you arrive. After taking them, you wony give a F___ what happens.

I had a job interview on Tuesday out of town so I told the boss I was getting them yanked out on Mon instead of Wed not to burn two of my last 5 vacation days up... Now I am thinking I should go to work at least half a day tomorrow and sat...

With me, I had insurance until I was 22 under my mom's plan while I was in college. I went here and there to the dentist and had them cleaned paying the bill myself. Well my dentist was a friend of the family and always said they were fine, not to worry about the crowding and never had any cavities. The last time i went he did say I had one but not to worry about it right away. Probably because he knew I didn't have insurance...

So another two years go by, I don't go to the dentist. I finally graduate at 27 years old and get a job. I work for a almost a whole year paying the dental insurance each month before I finally went and had them cleaned. The dentist said they were all good except for the wisdom teeth and they wouldn't fool with them... Time to get them yanked by an oral surgeon. I put it off for another two months befause I haad a trip planned for fourth of July and then I was trying to work this job interview in.

So here I am now awake from my percocet induced coma sore and feeling like crap again. Hungry too :( I guess I will eat another watch more TV, surf the web, buy crap on eBay, and then watch the X Games!

Shawn, I can snap the pics tomorrow of the ride plates if yopu still need one.

They didn't give me no percocet. They gave me some crap that didn't do a bit of good.

Go to work!!!

Having my wisdom teeth pulled and being in constant pain didn't keep me from my duties.

Do you have to have them out? Mine are so far impacted there almost upside down. My lowers have pushed my teeth together a bit. They dont bother me. Is there some side effect of not having them out besides pain and crooked teeth? I thought I heard migranes once??? any other weird underlying side affects I should be aware of. My dentist tells me every visit I should have them out but they dont seem to be causing any trouble.

The surgeon told me that when they are impacted like you said yours are, that fluid sacks will start to form around the impacted teeth. They can cut the sacks open but the only real solution is to remove the teeth. I am 28 and the older you are, the more the teeth are grown in and the roots stronger and locked down in your jaw bones more. I don't recommend having them out because of teh pain, but I do wish I had mine done when I was younger and the roots might have been smaller. I also wish I would have had them done before my braces so my bottom teeth wouldn't have went crooked after the braces. Then again my dentist told me they will always do that unless you wear a retainer the rest of your life.

If you are that worried about them, I would do more research online. I read somewhere that it is theorized that humans needed the extra teeth way back when we were cave people and chewed more sturbon grasses. WTF? lol You don't need them, if they are hurting or growing wrong, cavities? Get them yanked. I had cavities in the tops and impacted ones (crowded) in the bottoms so it was a no brainer.

I had one of them 'surface' a tad although I never could feel it and it was a nasty tasting puss pocket. gargled with peroxide for two day and it covered back up and hasnt done it since. I wonder if that was one of the fluid sacks you mentions rupturing.

Im to lazy to do research or I would be rich like Jett.:bigok:
