Ada Girdled head install help

ok, so I started to put my ada head kit on and ran into trouble. The girdled studs, obviously one side has longer threads then the other. I assume the longer treads, go into the block?? I did the middle two first they went all the way in no problems. Then I moved on to the side, and man I cant get them in very far. I had to use vice grips to get two back out that I tried, thus ruing the finish on the stud... What is the trick to get these in all the way? do I have to tap the stock block again?? The middle ones went in real far, I assume they all have to go in that far??

Is the motor in or out of the ski? I'm guessing in, with the pipe and carbs on?

motor is in. Everything is torn down, I'm reasembling now, starting with ada head.. so pipe, and carbs are not in the ski.

get a tap and run it through the cases to clean up the threads, from old locktite, corrossion etc..

If you can find a "thread chaser" instead of a tap, use that (less likely to destroy the threads that are there) If you have to, use a tap, just don't run it all the way in, go a little bit at a time. The studs do not have to be wrenched into the cases, but should go all the way in easily.

there is nothing wrong with using a tap just be careful to start it straight and you will want to use a bottom tap not a starter tap.

A thread chaser has larger openings between the "teeth", unlike a tap, allowing the debris you're clearing to not cause binding, it's less likely to break off in the threads. They are bottom ended, so they cannot cut further than the existing threads.

Use a bottom tap.. and use compressed air to clean out the holes once you run the tap in.

if you have a harbor freight close by then just buy the metric set they sell...think it comes with a 1/8 npt tap too... good to have all that stuff in the garage...

I have a Huge Tap and Die set, so thats not a problem.

MY question is what did you use to thread the tap in? Theres not much room, since my tap set uses a T handle to thread.. that wont fit on the tap that close to the motor.

if you take the cylinder off you should put on a new base gasket.... at least I think everytime you take the cylinder off it requires a new gasket....
