Damn, kids should not be able to operate these things. 18 should be the lowest age. Or everyone should have to go to a jet ski class or something.

So youre saying I should not have been allowed to ski the last 6 years of my life? Brilliant!

they have divers trying to figure out what happened????????????

WTF?!

he was zooming toward the dock, let go of the throttle and tried to turn, then he smashed into it.

it wouldnt be the first time.

one cop told me that just before the gator incident, one guy crashed into that same dock at full speed and they had to scrape and hose off his remains from the dock.

ban couches before they ruin it for the standups!

The age with a boater's license is 14.

It has nothing to do with age though, and everything to do with inexperience.

Lets not rule out the faint possibility that he was on a 2007 Seadoo. All of which have a recall because they improperly attatched the steering cable to the steering stem.......still....no excuse for not jumping off the back.

Let me start off by saying that it is terrible when something like this happens. The same kind of accident killed a young girl on a few blocks from me in Jersey this past July.

With that said though, am I the only who can't figure out for the life of me WHY you wouldnt just jump the hell off?? I know everything happens very quickly, but if you are a carrying enough speed to kill or seriously injure yourself towards a dock, you have to have at least a few seconds to realize things are about to go real real bad.

Personally, I think that boating laws should operate like the IJSBA. Younger kids should be able to ride, but let em ride a stand-up with some sort of permit obtained through a safety. And im not talkin about the B.S. classroom course the Coast Guard Auxiliary conducts, I mean like an on water safety course. The same should apply to couch riders, but I think you should be at least 17 or so to operate a couch alone.

My kids have ridden 50 and 60 mph couches before but then my kids have also been around skis their whole life and have been taught the safety rules as well as what to do and what not to do,it makes a difference.
