Today I am working on two Seadoos a 98 GTS that is clean as a pin and a 97GTI that hasn't been run in 20 years , everyone asks why do you like Seadoos so much, here is why , I put a battery in it, I got nothing, red light comes on the gauge , that means we have power to everything , no solenoid clicking no nothing , I go for the obvious and on a Seadoo you just unplug the connector at the solenoid and plug in the new one .
I hit the start button, click click , so we just diagnosed the problem , took under a minute, required a Phillips screwdriver , that's it, I replace the solenoid, it spins over , I check it for spark, we have it, I spray carb cleaner into the flame arrestor, it starts and runs , next test I unplug one spark plug wire and start it again, it starts, I unplug the other one and try to start it nothing.
I break out the compression gauge , front reads 147, rear reads 110 , not good , ok I know what you are going to say , it's dead right, an oil line broke and killed it, you would be wrong.
I pulled the head off and find a broken o-ring , I clean it up , replace the inner and outer o-rings back the inner o-rings up with 1211 and torque the head down , it now runs on both cylinders, I pull the carb, the carb is spotless inside except for a bit of crud in the filter, I clean it and reassemble it , no new parts were used ,it didn't need any , while the carb was off I put new oil lines on it .
Now we get to the fuel lines , for some odd reason no one carries fuel line any more , Advance has it listed on clearance for $1.85 a ft , they don't have any in stock , Autozone has it for $3.00 a ft , these places are crazy , I ordered 15 ft off of Amazon with ten clamps for $17.20 and it got here in two days , I am not paying $45.00 for 15ft of fuel line that's just plain crazy.
So the fuel line came in a few minutes ago and after lunch I will wrap this thing up tight , I still have to pull the pump, replace the wear ring and drain the fuel tank to put fresh gas in it.
This guy is a long term customer I have built probably 8 engines for him in the past and worked on about 20 of his skis, when these two are done he will bring me two more .
He dropped off a Seadoo 720 motor with me when he dropped the skis off, I pulled the head and checked it out , it is something someone cobbled together, OEM piston on the front cylinder , aftermarket piston on the rear , the rear cylinder and piston are trashed.
I have a good OEM top end off a 95 XP that is spotless, the rod went out on it, I will take this engine apart . clean and inspect it , spray everything inside down with W4U protectant and install the other top end with a hone and a new set of rings then put it on the shelf for the next one.
