Flipping couches for fun and profit

What the..............is he parting them or what?

Honestly, the Polaris machines with the blue Fuji triples are easy to work on, don't have many issues, and make real good runners.
He is not selling and only sporadically parting, he has a trust fund to buy all this and then just wants to control the market .... its pretty sad

......ya but,.....letting it all ruin in the sun makes that a poor investment. Nobody wants to buy your roached out handlebar cover. LOL!!

Exactly! All those skis are just going to sit there and rot. So strange to spend money like that regardless of how much you have

My point exactly it's a depreciating asset , that money would be much better suited in an investment acct making money, this is a losing proposition .

nah , he just wants to control market and parts, then he got bored with 2 strokes and started switching to 4 strokes , he upsells everyone by telling them that their old skis are junk .....

Anyone have a seadoo 657 engine they would want to part with cheap ?

Today I am working on two Seadoos a 98 GTS that is clean as a pin and a 97GTI that hasn't been run in 20 years , everyone asks why do you like Seadoos so much, here is why , I put a battery in it, I got nothing, red light comes on the gauge , that means we have power to everything , no solenoid clicking no nothing , I go for the obvious and on a Seadoo you just unplug the connector at the solenoid and plug in the new one .

I hit the start button, click click , so we just diagnosed the problem , took under a minute, required a Phillips screwdriver , that's it, I replace the solenoid, it spins over , I check it for spark, we have it, I spray carb cleaner into the flame arrestor, it starts and runs , next test I unplug one spark plug wire and start it again, it starts, I unplug the other one and try to start it nothing.

I break out the compression gauge , front reads 147, rear reads 110 , not good , ok I know what you are going to say , it's dead right, an oil line broke and killed it, you would be wrong.

I pulled the head off and find a broken o-ring , I clean it up , replace the inner and outer o-rings back the inner o-rings up with 1211 and torque the head down , it now runs on both cylinders, I pull the carb, the carb is spotless inside except for a bit of crud in the filter, I clean it and reassemble it , no new parts were used ,it didn't need any , while the carb was off I put new oil lines on it .

Now we get to the fuel lines , for some odd reason no one carries fuel line any more , Advance has it listed on clearance for $1.85 a ft , they don't have any in stock , Autozone has it for $3.00 a ft , these places are crazy , I ordered 15 ft off of Amazon with ten clamps for $17.20 and it got here in two days , I am not paying $45.00 for 15ft of fuel line that's just plain crazy.

So the fuel line came in a few minutes ago and after lunch I will wrap this thing up tight , I still have to pull the pump, replace the wear ring and drain the fuel tank to put fresh gas in it.

This guy is a long term customer I have built probably 8 engines for him in the past and worked on about 20 of his skis, when these two are done he will bring me two more .

He dropped off a Seadoo 720 motor with me when he dropped the skis off, I pulled the head and checked it out , it is something someone cobbled together, OEM piston on the front cylinder , aftermarket piston on the rear , the rear cylinder and piston are trashed.

I have a good OEM top end off a 95 XP that is spotless, the rod went out on it, I will take this engine apart . clean and inspect it , spray everything inside down with W4U protectant and install the other top end with a hone and a new set of rings then put it on the shelf for the next one.

I had to remove the fuel tank on this one so it's getting the full Monte , fuel petcock was half stopped up , stuff stuck to the screen at the bottom of the pickups and also stuck to the bottom of the tank , I put Berryman B 12 in and slosh it around then let it sit and do it again , over a matter of hours it will dissolve anything stuck to the tank bottom. Dump the tank out wash the outside and reinstall it .

On the air intake hoses I dumped out about 3lbs of dirtdobber nests, there are probably at least 5 lbs more of them on this machine but none were in the one way check valves for the fuel tank , kinda weird .

Petcock got cleaned out with a drill bit followed by q-tip soaked in Berry B12 , then you spray B12 through it and it is now cleaned and ready to reinstall.

Fuel lines are all cut and ready to put back on as well , this usually goes really quick except for the fuel tank, that will take a minute .

I have the twin to that '98 GTS!! Mine is also pretty mint but needs a crankshaft. What type of fuel line do you use? I just started getting mine from Fast Flow. It seems to be much higher quality than the other translucent tubing out there.

I only use 1/4" automotive fuel line on the Seadoos , this stuff I got from Amazon fit really tightly on the barbs and it seals up really well , $25 ft for $17.05 and it came with 10 clamps.

I don't mess with any of the translucent lines, they are all crap including fast flow , it will turn hard in about a year or two and I have had them start breaking down inside before also , I use Emgo 3/16 fuel line on the Yamaha's , I have had really good luck with it also.

The ski is back up and running on both cylinders now and it sounds really good , I also had to cut the plug wire back a bit , I have to put a wear ring in it and all of the cooling lines are full of dirtdobber nests , surprise , surprise , so I will have to get the hoses cleared out and check everything from the jet pump up to the head , my bet is that the passages in the jet pump are completely clogged up as well , possibly even the siphon tube fittings .

The easiest thing to do is remove the hoses completely , stomp on them then run water through them with the hose pipe to completely clear them out .

No current registration on the GTI so it will be Tuesday before I can water test it anyway , the 98 GTS has current regs on it , I may take it out tomorrow .

This Tracker does not like pulling double trailers and I don't want to stress it too much , so I had planned to make two trips anyway .

Cooling hoses were stopped up on one end and also on the thru hull fittings , the cooling passages in the pump were completely stopped up , I pushed an Allen wrench through the dirtdobber nests in the pump then blew water through it to clear it out , the wear ring was toast , but hey I knew what I would find already so no surprises here , impeller is decent , I am going to sharpen up the leading edges a bit , install a new wear ring and she should be good to go. I have the wear rings in stock .

Somewhere along the line someone left off the plastic guide for the oil pump cable so I have to round up one of those and a circlip , they had it running with the cable going through the stainless steel bracket , not good for the long run , luckily I caught it before reassembling the flame arrestor so at this point it's an easy fix .

I water tested the 98 GTS this morning , it didn't go well at all , it idled great and when I did get it on plane it ran out very well , when I turned around it wouldn't take off and go without pulling the choke , this is a brand new carb that someone installed , this is an accel pump carb and the pump wasn't working , I brought it back , pulled the carb , freed up the accell pump shaft , it had a bit of paint that had it stuck and that fixed the issue , reinstalled it and adjusted the accell pump throw , I will water test it again tomorrow morning adjust the low speed and the idle and it should be good to go .

I Hate these EPA BS acell pump carbs , but I have to wrap these up , either Sunday or Monday he is bringing me two more skis ..

If you have a caliper take a measurement of the o-ring sizing and the diameter of the bearing groove or at least a size that is close then go to McMaster carr they should have what you need . Those only keep the bearings from spinning in the cases , in reality it will work fine without them if you put a pink layer of red locktite on the bearings it will do the same thing .

Second water test , second fail and then the light bulb came on , yesterday when I was messing with this carb I noticed some things that didn't add up but my mind doesn't work well at that time of day , I am a morning person .

I will make a new thread detailing what I found and put a link in this thread later , hopefully someone else won't fall into this trap like I just did , lets just say for the purposes of this thread I know exactly what the issue is now.
