Misc. Q's while doing my buildup

Alright, In the midst of completely re-doing my ski and have a couple questions before I proceed any further....

Last year I re-enforced the engine bay and also did the tray firewall to block off the foam holes, strengthen for limiting rope etc. Well when I did this I also globbed a little extra epoxy around the exhaust tube to make sure it wouldn't leak. Now I can't get the exhaust tube out while trying to refoam the tray.... :banghead:

Any tips? I've already drilled out the rivets at the rear flange and tried to pry, but it's starting to bend up the flange. Next I banged on it from inside with a wooden block over the tube and nothing.... What else can I do besides cutting up the whole tray to get better access to cut out the epoxy & glue?

I'm also ordering all my needed parts and had a question on the water bypass fittings. I like the looks of the 90* over the 45* but am worried that the 90* will squirt water right into the bondline (plan on mounting in stock location) and go everwhere. Anyone have any experience with these? Am I overthinking this?

Thanks,

Try drilling around the tube to remove some of the epoxy. Use a small bit and get as close to the tube as possible. Make several holes around the tube until you can remove the tube.

I'll try that.... maybe use a dremmel to get up in there..... hopefully I won't have to tear up shtuff too much. :dunno:

i have straight pissers. they are great. i have extra if your interested

Not sure if I liket the straight ones.... I like the stream to be angled down so no spray back happens. Plus they're a b1tch to remove after corrison has set in. The angled ones you can stick a screw driver in to keep them from spinning.

I could not get my exhuast tube out without taking out the majority of the foam so you might want to wait before you really start banging on it. You might try a heat gun on the epxoy it should make it goopy. I have the 90 deg pissers the only complant is it is pulling up one of my registration numbers.

I might be mistaken....but I think heat will not do a thing to soften cured epoxy resin.
I agree with the former, though....get all the foam out, that's what's holding it in.
The epoxy should hardly stick to the tube at all.

Yeah what they said (I don't know about "softening" the epoxy but heat might still work to break it free...). A strap wrench will work wonders. I've used an oil filter wrench lined with turf before too.

A 90^ pisser isn't going to hurt anything. Greased Lightning will take care of the occasional black stuff.

I woulnd say it softens it but it releases it, you have to heat the crap out of it. I pulled a set of footholds out in one peice using a heat gun.. although it was that locktite 2 part epoxy. im assuming it works with any of them

It might. Now that I think of it, I clean my glass roller by dousing it in gasoline and lighting it on fire. The epoxy melts off in flaming drops.
