Engine maintenance

Hi, I am planning on building a Yamaha based trinity Evo ski and I wondering what is the best engine to use. I am leaning towards a Dasa engine because that is what my friends use but they have flatwater freestyle skis. What is the best engine for cruising around and for freestyle like nose stabs for example and surf. How is the maintenance on such powerful motors?

I did use the search function to its fullest capabilities to find the answers for these questions but I am not finding much

Thank you

I have a dasa 850ss in my rickter and have zero complaints with it. I had a brand new welded oem crank built for it and I am just hitting the 250 hour mark. Still the same crank, pistons and rings but I do replace wrist pin bearings about every 50-60 hours as this is the weakest link on these big piston motors. Also I do fog my ski pretty much every ride now unless im riding the next day. I also never store my ski with the hood on as it builds up condensation inside. Keep any chance of getting any rust on your crank surfaces and you'll get hundreds of hours out of one of these setups.

Check out our motors on Jetmaniac master parts thread. Our 781 big bore motor make as much power as a dasa 850 and cost a lot less. Our 781 BB can also run oem 38mm carbs reducing the need for larger more expensive carbs.

It’s all in the setup and tuning. It has been my experience that DASA gives very conservative tuning advise. Years ago I wish the JetManic 781 was around. I would recommend someone like JetManic because he can set you up with a full motor, carb, pipe, pump setup specs and is always easy to get in touch with. I’ve ridden many 781s that hit harder than most DASA 800. However a DASA 800 when set up correctly is also a nice package. Either way that Trinity Evo is going to be a fun playful ski.

Thank you all for the inputs about the engines. I really appreciate the info. I'll definitely look into jet maniac engines.

I got 2 seasons, well over 400 gallons of fuel out of my 1000. Replaced the top end bearings once, but it was due for a rebuild. Usually maintenance on these pricier motors is long before failure and to keep from ruining your investment. If taken care of properly they will last you a long long time.

What do you guys think of the TPE-964 or 1035 engines. They got pretty good feedback on the last thread I read about them.

Iive ridden some ported 701s that would surprise you. It's all in tuning and overall parts combo. Take the time to learn to dial in a more modest setup before getting a high dollar billet or cast powervalve cylinder. Id go with a 771 or hit up holeshot and get an 809 5mil.

Spend your money and time riding

With Kuwaits non existent surf what are you looking for in a hull and motor? If your doing stabs then just get a hot sub 800. Won't break the bank and with the temps so high over there you won't kill it.

I am in the same region as you and don't really run any billet motors past may/June as the water is bathtub temp. Just move to a 701/781 for all season riding in a super light hull.

I have 1 ski that I keep for really small surf and it's a heavy glass XFS with a 1200.

Thanks fof the input. There isn't much surf in the summer but the sea does get rough in the winter. I just remembered that my friend mentioned how he couldn't ride his hurricane ski due to the high water temp causing engine problems.

I'll probably go with a tuned 701 or 781 for my ski. I'll definitely look into the hot sub 800.

Do you need just the bare motor or fully built ready to run with all electrics installed ?
