just thinking how much fun we could have camping here one weekend.. this is peanut island in riviera beach florida.(thats palm beach county). they have campsites on the island, indoor showers and toilets. its approx 500 feet to the mouth of the palm beach inlet and its about 1000 yards to the public boat ramp on the mainland.. this could be a great time for all!!! if need be i can find out costs of the sites and resritictions if any and maybe a group discount. also have nearby a few local bars on the water, great food, diving, snorkeling right from the beach and a shuttle boat to the mainland during the day..post up here if interested and i'll find out more.. i guess we'll need a date too....i'm open for any suggestions..

Open fires are prohibited but small barbecue grills are permitted for cooking.

Facilities
Picnic Areas, Pavilions and Chiki Huts
The park features shaded picnic areas around most of the island. These areas are the perfect place to escape the sun to enjoy a relaxing meal. The picnic areas feature a number of picnic pavilions with tables and grills. All pavilions, picnic tables, and grills are available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at sunrise. The only exception is the campground pavilion which is reserved for the exclusive use of registered campers and their registered guests. The snorkeling lagoon on the south-east side of the island also features 4-Chiki Huts with picnic tables. These island-styled pavilion structures are sure to get you in an "island" state-of-mind!
Group Campfire Ring
For your safety, open fires are prohibited on the island. The only exception is a Group Campfire Ring located adjacent to the campground. This fire ring is only available during periods offering favorable wind and weather conditions at the discretion of the Park Supervisor. If conditions are acceptable, the park will provide wood for a controlled fire during evening hours. Please do not take wood from the fire ring to your campsite.
Paver Block Walking Path
There is no better way to explore all that Park has to offer than by taking a leisurely stroll around the island. A 1.25 mile paver block walking path winds around the perimeter of the island taking you to all the major facilities offered on the site. Along the way, you'll pass beautiful natural resources including tidal ponds, maritime hammocks, and mangroves.
Observation Deck
Located along the paver walkway on the south-west corner of the island, the park features a large, shaded observation deck that offers panoramic views of the Lake Worth Lagoon, the nearby port facilities, and surrounding communities.
Restroom Facilities
For your convenience, the park offers restroom facilities in several areas of the island including the east-side picnic and campground area, west-side tidal basin area, and the lagoon. Pole showers are available for visitors to rinse off the saltwater and sand. Campground showers are for the exclusive use of campers staying in the facility.
Palm Beach Maritime Museum
This non-profit organization operates a museum at the former U.S. Coast Guard Facility located on the south-side of Peanut Island. Among the highlights of this facility is a tour of the historic John F. Kennedy Bunker that was constructed to serve as a temporary command post during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 1960's. For information on the museum and their operating schedule call (561) 832-7428.

i don't really have a date set yet, i was actually thinking of making it sometime in march, but i really don't want to wait that long.. but with the holidays it makes it hard for some even to ride let alone spend a weekend riding. then jan 13th 14th we got daytona.. feb. is usually swamped month for me,:banghead: but my birthday is in march (great excuse to party at peanut!):woot: again just seeing if anyone is really interested and i'm glad some people are. i'll look into some dates to see what is open there, keep posting up here if interested lets see if we can get a bigger turnout!!
btw if you want to camp on the beach you can for free on the west side of the island, but you don't get use of the showers.
also HEY KEVIN! (LEGDRAG) think you can get a sitter for the weekend of this little shin-dig and come out and ride that sxr (or did you get rid of it already?)

Very cool Saki, I knew he was picking up at least 1 ski up there. Im affraid it will be in the 50's when I get my ski. I hate cold water!!!:smashfreakB:

i'm a miami boy.. i question leaving the house to go to work if its under 80..

Im from Miami also. I remember driving 3 hours up the coast to surf 1-3 wind slop in Feb with the water real COLD:bigeyes: NO PROB back then. At 38, for me to surf in cold water it has got to be really going off.:17:

I do like peeing in my wetsuit though. I've been known to put it on, pee in it and not even get in the water.

this is peter in cold water:popworm:

Now im just a big :baby:

For those needing inspiration, these pictures were shot at Peanut Island:
http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=90730

Actually, I was in contact with Nick since him asking me about this ride spot. After all, the world famous "Reef Road" surf spot is only 1/4 mile away from the inlet. I haven't had time to dedicate time to setting something up, but...

BTW: Back in the mid 90's we setup the "First Anual JetSki Jam." It was pretty cool because we got lots of sponsorship and the turn out was around 60 to 90 people. Even had a helicopter that provided an arial shots. Freeride, BBQ and play. Sadly it was the 1st and last (public) anual event.

Since then, Peanut Island has changed drastically!!!! It's no longer a wild island. It has all the facilities you would find in any public park..and then some (sheriff, office, camp, showers, bathrooms, natural swim pools, snorkeling, walking, boat docks, ect..).

You can get there by boat, jetski or water taxi.

Pictures below are from the "First Anual JetSki Jam" (back-n-da-day):

hahaha.. i used to jetski at airport hilton and surf at penrods back in THE DAY! loooong time ago..

What are you talking about "long time ago" when I surfed So Beach the only Penrod's was about 40 mins north in Ft Liquourdale. During hurricane David (1979) I broke both my collar bones and my cheek bone on the old pier at Haulover Beach. A wave slammed me on one side of a pylon and my board on the other side with me not able to get my leash off on a 7' Gerry Lopez Lightning Bolt, I was only 11 and about 80 pounds. I was a lifeguard at Haulover in 85-86. Also back then I lived in NMB and would go up to Dania on the intercoastel...can't remember what the name of the place, I think it's jet ski beach. remember? How bout Beer can Island? Yes, looooooooooooong time ago. If I get better at riding im hoping they start a "Geritol" or "Prozac" class that I may be able to compete in.
