Custom/Hybrid When will there be a hull everyone can afford?

same holds true for Amateur Freestyle. You have to have 25K to be competitive now. IJSBA Tour Stop is going to be 100 miles from me. I am going........... To Watch.

Trust me man, we aren't happy the costs either, but we love the sport and are doing what we can just to stay competitive.

Hey, not blaming you at all. Yall are out there trying to put out a hull at a reasonable cost. Cant fault you there. Side Note, I fault the APBA and IJSBA.

No one needs a 30k ski to have fun.. but you need a 30k to be competitive. Theres a reason no one in Pro Freestyle uses a Super Jet hull... it's not competitive. Its still a great hull for surf riding, but flat water has progressed past the 15-year old Super Jet hull design.

If you're having fun on a super jet, more power to you. But c'mon, no need to start bashing the companies that are offering AM hulls for the guys who want to do more.

Not bashing any company for building any product. I'm bashing this new trend that a superjet is suddenly no good. It worked for the best riders on the Planet for the last 22 years now all of a sudden it's supossedly holding people back when they are just average riders. I see people that can barley ride on backflip hulls and 1000ccs or at least wanting them. 99% of riders don't compete. It just seems silly that they would need a competition freestyle hull when they arnt riding their superjet to its potential. The main problem I see with that is the next generation of riders will never learn the fundamentals of ski riding cause they are going strait for a backflip hull..

Give me a courage pls :) how many guys out there with SJ 701 motors make barrel rolls and back flips in the surf? I absolutely agree that most people are looking for more upgrades than upgrading their skills.. I am looking forward to finally land at least a barrel roll with my lightly modded 2010 SJ :)

I have barrel rolled my Square Nose 701 in the surf, and my brother can flatwater roll it...no trim, no aftermarket hull, no 1000 cc :)

Only 2 years on a ski and i have backfliped my SN with a 701 plenty of times in the surf and off v-wakes in the lake and im not the best rider(but its water how much can it hurt?). I mean the SJ hull is loads of fun and i enjoy riding with friends and spending time with my wife. First hobby where she is somewhat included. I would love to own 1200cc with carbon hulls cause i love the feel of something nutty.

Well, this thread has given me lots of great insight. Our goal is to provide a great entry level hull that most will be able to afford, it will be strong and lightweight. It will also offer 2 bottom decks, so no matter if you have an SXR or a Superjet, we are hoping to provide you with a hull your driveline will drop right in and go.

What we are planning to pride ourselves on is easy installation. Due to feedback from you, 99% will be sold assembled unless requested. This will give us the chance to chase threads, and actually mock up the driveline with the parts we have so you can be sure all of your parts will bolt in and be ready to go. I have seen the other budget hull that failed on here, and at the suggestion of others I did some research.

Pricing is still up in the air, but I want to be able to sell a fully assembled and plumbed "basic" glass hull for under 3k. Basic meaning no turf, gel coat finish, no footholds, no scupper. Just a bulkhead installed, top and bottom bonded, cooling/trim/steering/exhaust tubes and fittings installed, inserts for battery tray and motor mount pads installed. I think at that price range it will give a lot more options to those looking to get into an aftermarket hull.

And for anyone that didn't follow the link, this is what came out of the molds we are working on getting here. It's down to a final price on shipping and we are pulling the trigger on this.

I wasn't trying to discourage you in previous posts... If you buy a proven hull mold and have the means to produce them for the public with top notch quality and budget in mind then I think that's great! I just wanted to make you aware of what you need to prep yourself for. If you are ok with that then carry on man, build a bada$$ budget hull!!

I understand its going to be a huge project, but in the long run I want to do something big for the sport. Im not looking to compete with the rickter and superfreak. I still want to own a freak one day... But for the cost of this investment we should be able to pop out 2 hulls (plus initial cost) for what we would pay for 1 superfreak. So if it takes off, great. If not hey, we built our own hulls that nobody else here in the USA has.

Hell. I own a freak and want to ride one of these hulls. I was drooling back in the day when Nikwad started this whole thing. Go get 'em man. I can't wait to see what comes of ur investment. And by the way, don't ruin the molds in the process in case someone else wants a crack at them.

No problem there, Im planning on pulling a super thin glass bottom before anything so I can change it up to run a kawi pump and make another mold. I just ordered a MAXX 145 kawi pump for my 300 build so I dont want it to go to waste.

I was impressed with it so much also and love the way it looks... After not hearing from him on purchasing one I decided to build my own version!!!

I will be posting more about it soon, but wanted to get further along before doing so.
Im just about to take a mold off the modded bottom hull and am currently taking molds off a friends SXR so I can create my top deck plug...

Its been fun and such a long project! I wish i could have just bought these molds, but i guess in the long run I will like what im doing as it has a few little things I like added and I built it which is half the reason I started it!

Nickwad did a great job, the ski looks real clean and cool!!!

If you are planning to change the molds anyway then go ahead and add some more rocker to the front. That is the only thing that seems to be lacking on that hull. Of course you may ride it and decide it doesn't need it. What do I know? Just an uneducated, no experience opinion.

HAHA, Thats one of the changes I have implemented into my design, I added rocker and also rockered the
actual bondline slightly and gave it some built in kick on the rear that will not allow it to not grab water so much
and give a much quicker reaction...

I forgot to write last night about what this posts subject is even about... oops

After doing what I have so far, I think alot of people dont realize whats involved into making a hull
The plug and mold process is extremely time consuming not to mention the amount of supplies you go through... And you may go through this a couple times to get the performance you after! Even once you have molds and are ready to lay up, supplies and time adds up quick...

My conclusion, I am doing what im doing b/c I like projects and learning and saying I built it!!!
with the time and supplies I now know it takes, Hulls like the B.O.B and even others are well worth what they ask for a quality product.

its all about the R&D, lets face it any of us that are far enough to ask about an aftermarket hull have used fiber and resin it's not brain science, BUT......30 hulls later you might have something that actually rides the way you want it...we could all afford to make one hull or two hulls if we already know the shape and mounts and such....leave it to the pro's! they have already done the 30, 40, 50 test hulls to find the one WE ALL WANT!

Its a good thing Tem did not have this mentality or we never would have seen the superfreak....

There is not that much R&D to do. The builders have it easy, all they have to do is make a good looking hull that is short and fat. A plywood crate will backflip just fine with one of the big engines installed. The real work is in promoting the product. Buyers arent asking technical questions so sellers have to play on emotion.
