I have a 1990 js550. Ive been riding my ski a lot lately. but when i start my ski it takes anywhere from 10secs to 30secs to get it going. I hold the throttle down till it starts, it is very WEAK START. Once it starts it will run till the tanks empty. but even when its warmed up and i kill it/let it sit for 5min, it takes a while to start again. I got a primer, strong battery, starters good, wiring is good, whats going on??? it wants to run but doesn't want to start easily, psi for both pistons are a little over 100, i want my 550 to start up with ease

yea a rebuild is in order. Is this motor all stock? Also as you have a 90 it could be a piston port or reed motor because it switched that year. If its stock and painted silver its a reed. Some machine shops are not familiar with the setup tolerances on these old iron cylinders and may end up boring it too tight if you don't tell them exactly what you need. You said the walls are in good condition tho so you can probably just hone it. You can pick up a cylinder hone that you run in a drill at most auto parts stores. You also need to measure your bore to see what size it is at so you can order a new set of pistons and rings. I would get pistons for a 91 and up reed motor as they have double rings, just make sure they don't have boost ports cut in them. The carb could also need a rebuild. In the end of all that it should be noted that old 550 piston ports are slow starters anyways and if the thing runs is it really worth it to to rip it apart
