Important Information Regarding Freestyle Technical Inspection

September 12 , 2006

Attention Freestyle Competitors:

Due to concerns regarding Pro Freestyle upper decks, the following will be the method of regulating aftermarket top decks.

IJSBA Rule 9.2.2 States

Pro Freestyle ONLY: The top deck of freestyle craft may be modified or aftermarket, providing the following: The top deck must resemble the original top deck of the homologated watercraft; length and width of top deck must be within 13mm (0.50 in) of the original component; the craft must function as originally intended. Fuel fillers may be relocated internally.

The top deck must resemble the homologated PWC which was selected to create a Modified Class PWC for Pro Freestyle competition. To determine whether the top deck resembles the original homologated PWC the silhouette method will be used. The test will be whether the modified top deck significantly deviates from the silhouette of the OEM machine.

A drastic deviation from the outline of the original PWC will be considered a violation. If the deviation comes into question, an independent jury of five persons will be selected from outside of the PWC industry.

This jury will be comprised of local citizens not familiar with PWC racing as to bring about an opinion based on an objective view of whether the modified top deck resembles the original top deck.

Pro Freestyle PWC will be subjected to pre technical inspection and post competition inspection. Pro Freestyle competitors will be required to keep their PWC on the beach in public view until the Race Director informs the competitors which persons need to bring their PWC to final technical inspection.

Competitors must take their PWC directly to inspection by shore. There will be a maximum amount of five minutes permitted to check the PWC in at technical inspection.

Please email any questions or concerns to:info@ijsba.com

I think malones new topdeck is pretty close to an octane. I don't get this rule. What advantage could someone gain by a radically different topdeck? The length and width I can see but you could always run a diff hull. The whole jury thing too is very broad most people will think a sj, sx/sxi, and octane look almost the same. Someone must have something crazy for them to make a rule like this.

I think it is more kawi SXR

i think malones hull is significantly shorter than an oem boat, no matter what brand.

Scott Frazier is such a tool. Instead of a run what you brung, we'll tech pros in a "mod" class some more, so they cant ride what they've been riding for the last 6+ months of training. Way to crap on the sport some more. Someone get this jackass out of control.

As for freestyling x-jets, we won't have to worry about those. If you order one, they'll have a complete MOD rule by the time you receive it, maybe in 2010.

I think Malones boat is like -4in......Lenzi's is about the same. Steve at WF has his "back flip" bottom beck that I guess is illegal as well.

If you have an x-jet or whatever you should be able to run what you have. Pro freestyle used to be unlimited mods, but I guess he is just trying to level the playing feild. It would be a more effective method to weigh the boats :sneaky: and limit the cc's to a certain #

I think all of those BF hulls are pretty much stock length. It's the hull that gets cut down.

???

Based on this, the BUN freestyle hulls that have been out for years with the rear swooped upward are illegal, Lenzi's are illegal, Malone's, Watercraft Factory's.

from the city outside of the pwc industry........ what a load... if you live in havasu i can pretty much guarantee you have seen or have heard about pwc racing..... or have ridden one yourself.... thats like trying to find an unbiased jury for a murder trial that was nationally publicized, its not gonna happen.

i think this is just another example of the powers that be shooting themselves in the foot. nascar does something similar to the silouhette thing with the templates to check the cars, but we all know there is nothing stock about a stock car. the aftermarket top decks like WF,Waterdawg,XFT, EME, and anyone else that builds a top deck should be allowed these are the poeple that are furthering the sport. innovation leads to change and expansion, this is like freestyle slavery almost....... creating outkasts because they don't "fit the mold". these hulls make the tricks we are seeing today possible. with out them who knows how long it would have been before someone pulled a flatwater backflip or a double barrel roll

just my two cents... i know it doesn't mean much coming from a couch rider

Who cares, run what ya brung and hope ya brought enough.....

I could understand if there was a saftey issue behind not using these certain hulls, but it is just freestyle and it is a 1 man against the clock situation...If his $hit breaks or falls apart in that time frame becasue it is too short or too light or too this or that, then too bad......

Am I wrong? I thought that the WF hull at Lanier, which is essentially the same as most other BF hulls was the same on the top deck and it was only the bottom that got cut. I certainly could be wrong.......

I think Malone boat create this "new" wave of tech BS. Can you mix a kawi with a polaris??? Is it legal to do so?? ... I guess not, according to the ijsba. The AM hull and top deck has to be similar to an oem. Why is the top deck such a concern? I can't really see it helping in the level of tricks pulled!!

Yes, all of these rules are ridiculous. Skills is what wins championships along with some good equipment of course!
