I'd ride and not listen to others. Unless you've already got alot of tray time. Although it's been a while since I've rode surf. A long ride plate is advice I would never give. Its going to greatly increase the chance of the ski pearling on a wave. The only time a long ride plate is a benefit, is when trying to keep the ski planted to the water. Or newbie riders who can't figure out weight placement to stop porpoising. If your having trouble with the ski riding nose high. And being unstable. You need to figure out weight placement. And throttle control. Not band aid it with a ride plate. You will develop much better riding skills this way.

I'd beware of advice from whoever recommended a long ride plate for surf.

Thanks. For the reply. hear you/fully understand your points. However, Started riding stand ups decades ago. Many skis/ hours over the years. Recommendation is from some top builder/racer, riders . I’ll throw it on when I ride surf only. If I like it in the surf.. great. If not no big deal. .. just take it off. Hopefully you’ll cut me some slack.. I am 55 and riding a Rickter in the surf ( as long as it is not to big) life is good.

Just turned 54 yesterday, 230 lbs, been 240 for the past few years. I run the Med Length Edge plate on mine. Play with your pole length some. I have a carbon Superjet plate that is about 2-3" longer that I will throw on for Lake Riding some. But have always ridden with the RRP plate for surf.

I'm not much for cutting people slack. But also. My opinion doesn't mean a damn thing. I can shred some waves though.

Lawlor was a big ol boy. As is the buzzard, buzzard being in his 50s also. And they Huck skis. Hopefully I'll be doing the same in my 70s.
