Why the side draft carb setup?

I saw a pic of someone's engine in the photo album section that had side draft mounted carbs.

So . . . what's the reason to run them?

Its a racing mod,it gives better carb signal by moving the carbs closer to the reed valves,not the ticket for freestyle because of the water ingestion issues.

it would be good for low end throttle response on freestyle setups if you could make a good water resistant system for the carbs.
