mcmaster carr sells 36" sections of aluminum tubing that is 7/8" in diameter, and nearly 1/4" thick walled, it seems beefy. A friend bought some and sent me a piece for a set of straight bars. IIRC, a 36" section is only like 33 bucks, and shipping would probably be 10-12
