What would you do?

The absolute best crank I have laid hands on was one that came out of a 650. Supertight tolerances, nice and smooth.

Thats sound encouraging. I was thinking I would want to try to crack it open first. If I don't like what I see, I can always sell the engine in pieces, or buy a new base gasket and slap it back together real quick.

You think I should even open up the short block first before I sell it just to buy a crank? I have a feeling that this crank is going to be in excellent condition, but who knows.

It would just cost you a gasket. Do you have bolts to build the other engine? Those can get expensive if you have to buy all of them from Yamaha. That may be another reason to tear the 6m6 apart.

Well I know i have the bolts that hold the two halves of the cases together, but not sure if I have the bolts that hold the cylinder to the cases, or if I have head bolts.

Good point accbr. Thanks.
