What will it take to fix this?

I just picked up this 1994 550sx off of Craigslist for $400 and it runes great. It is almost perfect, except for as gash on the front. I was wondering what would be the best way to fix this? It does not have to look perfect, and I am not looking to repaint the whole ski for this on damaged place. This ski is stock except for the ocean pro ride plate and K&N filter.
PS. do you think that $400 was a fair price. All the padding is perfect, and it has new hydro turf in the foot well. It also came with a new battery too.

I would fix that from the inside first: a couple of layers of 1708 biax or similar. Then you can grind the front back a little ready to fill with some epoxy and a sandable filler, or just go and get some Bondo. But it definitely needs to be patched on the inside before you fix the external cosmetics.

Like said, fix it from the inside, i wouldn't worry about cloth, just put some resin and make sure no water can get in. And then a sticker to cover it.

$400 is a pretty fair price for something that nice down here in socal. There was a 1994 that was for sale for $400 for a while but i think there was something wrong with it. Looks pretty clean though. Nice find.

That is going to need cloth and epoxy from the inside, its SMC the crack will just get bigger if not fixed properly, grind the inside, put several layers of cloth in to cover the hole and let it cure.

When it is cured come on the outside and grind all the nasty stuff out till you reach good material, you should at that point be down to the glass you laid from the inside, start laying cloth and resin into the gouge starting with small pieces and getting larger each time, build it up slightly higher than the surrounding area, let it cure.

When it is fully cured grind it back to the shape you want, then use filler and primer to finish it up,Kawasaki used to make touch up paint in a spray can, it may still be available.

Terry is 100% correct here.
