I went through these probs last summer with my wet pipe. I have all my settings written down. I went with way different pop off settings and way different jetting then what FP suggested. If you need any help feel free to call me. My set up isn't perfect yet, but it it leaps and bounds better than it was with the FP settings.

Alright I'm a do it your selfer and this is my first time really playing with carbs! I know how to re-jet them and mess with the high speed and low speed screws but I have no idea what pop off is so a little help please. My friends own a dirt bike shop in town so if its something that I think I'll need help with I can go talk to them but I would like to do it myself. So any input would be much appreciated!

I used FP settings and jets with no problems, but I have a 2003. (You do need to change the pop off if you havent. I believe the numbers are in the directions)

My ski is also a 2003. I got myself a pop off pump/gauge and it was the best thing I ever did. Just getting your carbs to pop off at the same pressure makes a big diff. For my ski I found the FP setting to be a bit rich.

First step is to read and understand the Mikuni manual then it will all make sense.

Mark44

If anybody else wants the Mikuni Manual I have it in PDF format and can email it to you on the condition that you actually use it and make your ski RIP!!!!!!:barrel:

Alright I read the manual and I understand how to change the pop off, and from what it says it sounds like my pop off is too high. So that means I should use a weaker arm spring right?

So my plan is to go down one size at a time until it feels right. I checked the instructions that came with the pipe again they don't mention changing the pop off, heres the jetting specs that they give you.

2003 and 2004 SX-R 800 Wet Pipe Jetting Specifications
Main jet: 152.5 front, 152.5 rear
Pilot Jet: 80
High-speed screw: 1/2 turn out from closed
Low speeds screw: 1.0 turn out from closed
Needle: Stock
Spring: Stock
Note: Stock compression & timing +6 degrees
Remove the rubber trumpets from each end of the air box or use aftermarket flame arrestors.

Or you can simply cut yours to your desired popoff. It doesn't take much.
