Water in the separator ???

How much water if any, is OK or normal, to be trapped in the water separator after a good weekend of riding ?

I always have about a 1/4" on the bottom of the separator.
I drained the fuel tank 2 weeks ago just after I first noticed the water but the tank was moisture free.
When I open the fuel filler there is pressure in the tank so it seams that the fuel system is tight.

Do I have a problem or is this normal seeing as how these things do like to go under water from time to time ?

Don't want to sound ignorant just trying to learn.

Why would taking out the plug or the separator all together be a good thing ?

Do they tend to crack or fail in other ways ?

If they cracked, it would be a good thing. I just think they're worthless. Like you said, it always has water in it. If it fills up the water will go into your gast tank and cause problems. It'll work the best with the plug out. But I like to remove it because it's an eyesore.

Keep it.

If you take the plug out, everytime your ski lands on the left side the hose will be underwater and you can suck water into the tank. It also routes the line out of the hull so gas vapors won't get in if the one-way valve fails.

I just empty mine every time I fill up with gas
I used to have a 20 oz Coke bottle in the line as a second water trap which helps when you are doing a lot of subs.

On my other ski I don't have one, just have the one-way and the end of the hose is in the engine compartment. Big thing here is that I do NOT run a reserve line so I am always pulling from the bottom of the tank. If a few drops get in the tank they get sucked up into the carbs before it can build up into a noticeable volume. As long as you run a reserve line, you should keep the seperator or you'll wind up with water in the tank :cool2:

Thanks guys.

I run the ski with the selector in the reserve position all the time and I do use all the gas up. As soon as I get my new fuel lines I plan to get rid of the selector and since I'm there I guess I'll loose the water separator as well.

Until then, I'll just keep emptying the separator after every ride.
