Turfing before paint?

I am gonna foothold and returf my SJ. I did a search on this first, but found nothing. My original plans were to wait til this winter to paint it, install the holds, and turf all at once. But since its just starting the riding season, i want the holds this year! My questions is, can i turf the ski with the new holds, then maybe mask off the turf to paint the boat this winter? Or will i have to just rip off this one season old turf and put new on over the winter? What would you guys recommend?

if youre itchin to ride, and dont mind a less-than-perfect paint job, turf then paint.

if you want to do it right, paint then turf.

keep in mind that you can turf your ski now, the when youre ready for paint, you can bevel the edges of the turf in from the edges, paint, then turf over your existing turf, even using different color railcaps (gray on black, black on gray, white on black, etc).

but like mr crabs said, if youre REALLY good with masking off the turf, it doesnt matter, depending on how picky you are.

The spots around the tray don't need painting all that bad. I was gonna change the color, but i'm gonna stick with blue. So its not like i need it to be exactly perfect!

Just mask it off it will be fine .That's how I did mine and it came out fine .:fing02:

Mask it off, when done painting to get rid of paint edge/line around tray, dash, gunwhale area, use some black/grey silicone to cover up the edges. Prevents turf from peeling off and makes a nice transition from paint/turf.

Some don't like it. I don't care. Keeps water out from under turf.

Sounds like a good idea to be honest! Makes sense. It will also help hold the edges of the turf down!

Just a small bead. Sillycone can get ugly when aplied wrong. It also has a sheen to it where as turf is a matte finish. They contrast but I don't really care, I'm doing it to myski this year. Don't want my cheapo underpadding to fill with water (even though it is closed cell)

black, rubberized CA glue works even better IMO....availble from blowsion..get the accelerator spray as well
