I don't think I would mind that so much. I occasionally leave it up on accident and I come back to find that all posts have been read already...

There is no timeout, you have an issue on your computer. Try a different browser, Internet Explorer/Chrome/Firefox/Safari and see if it acts the same.

I have tried three different browsers on three different computers with three different operating systems,I am not sure what the time out is but it is there.

I deleted ALL my cookies, IB history, everything. Logged in at 9:54 and checked it every 5 minutes by refreshing. I was booted when I refreshed at 10:25 and had to log back in....

The timeout is about 30 minutes for me....

Whatever it is causing this deleting cookies, history etc will not solve it,PWCT does it also but the timeout window is much much larger I would say more like a couple of hours.

Well I discovered if you are replying to a thread, the time out is VERY short, like less than 5 minutes! It pissed me off a couple times just now while trying to post a reply to a thread. Hit reply and then I get the "you are not logged in" page...F * C K this is frustrating! This is not my computer its something with the site.

I have never had this problem that I can remember on x-h2o.

Which browser are you using and which version of it?

I have the same problem. I started a thread about it a few months ago. I gave up. But it was both at work and at home so I figured it was something I was doing.

Hope to see a resolution for you and me!

I'd love to be more "wordy" in some replies....gotta keep it brief for now!

I am using IE8 right now to test this. I've never logged in under it before, so we'll see how it goes.

The only time I ever have to login is when I delete my cookies or the mods are doing service and have rebooted the system. I can open a reply window and leave it up for hours if I get called away and still come back and submit it no problems....usually. There have been the odd times where I've had to log in repeatedly over an hour or so but i always assume it's during an update session or some form of maintenance by the mods because it never lasts.

Ever since I did the last IE update (version 8.0) ebay no longer remembers my username and I must reenter my username everytime as well as password, I believe it was a change to make ebay safer from hackers and it just happened to coincide with my last windows update as ebay was the only site affected.

perhaps it's a software conflict? I have run into a couple problems posting from work but only when i run certain programs that refresh my screens frequently, (Wonderware Windowviewer and Activefactory). When it happens it wipes out everything i have currently typed into open windows. This happens in Word, Excel, Outlook and anything else that i type words into including my webmail account so I know it's on my PC. I have learned to close the offending software before posting any lengthy replies.

Sounds like our beloved microsoft is up to their old buggy tricks.

Oh Microsoft, when will your antics ever cease?

Please don't forget that firefox on Windoze still uses some of the same 'base' functions that IE does. Perhaps this is a new safety "feature".

Can you rollback to an earlier version of IE? I know you can with system restore, but what a PITA.

I had the same problem once. Ended up being an issue with the linux permissions. Wiping out the cookie/add-on directory fixed it for me.

SuperJett: Do you use Keep-Alive headers? (doubt it)

X2Pilot: Get Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit from here. Turn on Application Compatibility Logging following the steps here. Open event viewer using the steps here and look at the internet explorer folder. If the viewer is too complicated to understand, post a screen shot and we'll try to decipher.

EDIT: Of course you'll have to reproduce the problem before it'll show up in the viewer.
