Tie Down Engineering Turbo Lube Hubs for trailer

Still Fat....
anyone using the tie down engineering turbo lube hubs?
I bought a pair...
they seem nice, except i got jipped.. they are supposed to be 1" bearings, so i put one on and it was wobbly, and the other was perfect. seems like they packaged one with the 1 1/16" bearings.. ohh well. i'll take it up with west marine later

anyway... before i commit to keeping them, what wheel did you use?
i am having a hard time finding a wheel/rim for them. the hub diameter is LARGE and 5 bolt design... I don't think i want to go to a 13" wheel for my stand up jetski trailer.

my current wheel size is 8" * 5.7" just a nice size for the small trailer, overall it's about an 18" diameter wheel/rim. I also want galvanized wheels too and prefer a 6ply tire.

I could return them and go with the sealed bearing buddy setup (you have to use the rear spindle seal to make it truly effective) if i can't locate a wheel, something 8-12" max.

the turbo lube hubs for those that don't know are a wet bath system, meaning no grease, uses diff. oil and it's pretty much as water proof as you can get. only draw back is finding a wheel to fit it... many great reviews on various websites. usually larger trailers though. also wet bath runs cooler, and has less of a drag effect, not that my setup would see a massive gain since it's small.

just wanted to see if anyone else is using it.

i'm in the process of restoring the trailer. ordered all stainless steel bolts for it, and going to repaint the rails and all. cleaning it up. it's in fanomial shape for 7 years old and being in the salt water. Long Chih Tiwain trailer. MOFO to get parts for it because its so odd ball sized. perfect stand up trailer though.

Don, see if you can get a pair of Douglas 12" X 155 tires for the trailer. Maybe academy would have a rim. I got the Douglas tires at Wally World for 17 bucks each.

Also if your trailer has some rust you can kill it with some "Ospho" Osphospho if I spelt it correctly. then prime and paint. That chit works pretty good on rusty metal.

actually to my surprise the parts that had rust were the leaf springs (typical surface rust) and bunk mounting brackets, axel tie down plates, and some bolts. easily replaced.
the rest of the rails and what not are in AWESOME condition, despite being in the harsh north east salt water. i also did my best to take care of the trailer, and when i assembled it, i clear coated it as well. guess it all helped.

I believe i use that stuff you are referring to. I think it's also known as rust convertor or prohibotor. It's awesome stuff. not only have i used it on the trailer, i used it on my old 84 GMC Jimmy and way back in the day on my 75 Dodge Van, and it's amazing, not to mention cheap too.

I plan to visit Wally world to check some rims and tires out. I also need to make sure the tires can survive the dreaded road heat here in Yuma. I have been warned by local people here don't skimp on them. this place eats bias ply tires alive...

I'm just wondering if anyone here has used or personally know anyone that has used a wet bath type of hub. I did find that CEsmith makes a 12" wheel with a large hub that seems like it will fit. another thought i had was since it will raise the trailer up higher, i can can get a longer tongue on the trailer to sit it back further. the ramps here don't have a steep drop off (comapred to where we were in NY).

I sand blasted the axel down yesterday to get all the greese and minor surface rust off it.
i put some of that rust protector stuff on it, and let it dry overnight. I did the same to the leaf springs, they cleaned up really nice too.

The turbo lube hubs don't look like they will hold alot of oil either, and have a really nice looking rear seal to them. I just can't see how they wont leak, not sue what will be worse, splattered grease, or splattered gear oil. but i have not heard anyone say their wet bath hubs leaked. down fall to the wet bath is expense, however if you are buying hubs, bearing buddies, spindle seals, etc... then it's actually cheaper (well maybe a buck or tow more) for the wet bath, and the peace of not having to always grease the bearings. i'm just super concerned about it here because of the dangerous road heat, long trips, and traveling in the dessert with no parts places in the vacinity for miles on end... better to errrr on the safer side, even though anything can happen at any time. I also plan to add one of those spare hub/tire carriers on the trailer as well.
